To be honest, looking at the line-up like that it's quite weak . If they had day tickets, Friday seems like the best day to go by far: Mogwai, Shadow, PJ, Massive, dEUS...They seriously need a few more big name acts....then again super-cool, ultra hip, charismatic friend to the stars that is Barry Egan reported in yesterday's Sindo that EP is 'close to being sold out'.

I think it looks like it's a really good lineup. A mate of mine has been raving about Os Mutantes since they reformed this year, it's probably the greatest thing to ever happen to him in his lfe. I must check them out before EP time.

It's not the best festival line-up announced this year but there are plenty of intriguing acts in there and EP as a festival itself is worth the admission fee. Looking forward to DJ Shadow, Yo La Tengo, My Morning Jacket, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Deus, Mad Professor, Os Mutantes, Tilly And The Wall and to hear new material from Bloc Party. Comet: DJ Shadow is listed on the Friday and Saturday. Is he playing twice?

Reading Una's blog from Sonar, he might not be playing at all, nevermind twice ... The big dissapointment was DJ Shadow, because it wasn´t DJ Shadow really, it was DJ Shadow ´presenting´these REALLY s**t rappers. So, I expect that´s what the Electric Picnic set will be too. It was really lame. Then Shadow had to explain to the crowd, he was like "you guys obviously didn´t read the tickets, it´s not actually me playing", but then to appease people, he did a few of his own tunes, and then it went back to the lameness of "when I say hip, you say hop". Totally s**t, and s**tter still that that´s what it´ll be like at Electric Picnic - so be warned!

Yeah that's not good news at all. I was hoping he would be as good as (or even better than) MixMaster Mike from last year. He also has a new album on the way.

TBH I wouldn't take any notice of what kind of show DJ shadow put on in sonar. Means nothing. I like the line up, nice and ecletic

And forget Shadow, EP just added a massive star to their line up. Yes, that absolute tosser, David McWilliams, he of how many buzz words can I come up. The thought of EP pissing money away on this goon instead of a decent act. Press waffle Broadcaster David McWilliams, author of 'The Pope's Children: Ireland's New Elite', has been added to the line-up for this year's Electric Picnic music festival. McWilliams will host Leviathan - Dublin's sell-out monthly political cabaret - with special guests and artists from the bill taking part in a live and interactive debate. Leviathan: Political Cabaret is a cocktail of debate, satire, music and comedy designed to inform and inflame in equal measure. Some of the questions tackled at the cabaret over the past three years include: "What Next for the US Crusade in the Middle East?", "Is Nuclear Power the Solution to Global Warming?", "Why Should We Celebrate 1916?" and "What Have the Brits Ever Done for Us?". Leviathan shows have featured live and interactive debate, stand-up comedy, satirical musicals, poetry readings, singer-songwriters, a punk-gospel band and the Langerland.com cartoons. From 6pm on the Saturday and Sunday of the festival, Leviathan will take over the on-site cinema for two very special shows which will ask expert and entertaining panels some controversial questions. There will also be musical comedy from Paddy Cullivan and The Camembert Quartet, a three-minute soapbox for people to vent their spleen, performance poetry and the world premiere of a brand new Langerland.com cartoon featuring the voices of Gift Grub's Mario Rosenstock. Leviathan founder and producer, Naoise Nunn said: "This is a very exciting development for the show. We're delighted to be bringing Leviathan to what is already a thoughtful and civilised festival with a great atmosphere." The Electric Picnic, Ireland's boutique music festival, takes place from 1 to 3 September. Tickets are priced €175 and are available from Ticketmaster outlets nationwide.

What's even more disturbing is the presence of The Camembert Quartet.

Missed that. "musical comedy from Paddy Cullivan and The Camembert Quartet." Oh joy, corsets at the ready for their unique brand of side-splitting comedy

i think it might just work! mcwilliams sometimes comes across as a smug git but in fairness he does know his stuff have never seen this leviathan yoke but it sounds intriguing mcwilliams's best moments all came on the sadly missed 'agenda' on tv3 and his worst came on his underwhelming morning radio show on newstalk and his constant appearances on shows plugging that bloody buke of his! so long as his EP show is closer to the former than the latter, it could be a worthwhile addition to the roster

IIRC the people who run EP trusted the festival goers enough last year to not confiscate their bottle tops from the coke bottles sold on site so that they didn't throw full bottles at the performers. With the Camembert Quartet there they may have to reconsider that.

I like McWilliams but is there any need for political debate at a music festival?

Is there any need for McWilliams? I mean anyone who calls a book "The Pope's children - the new elite" really is an idiot. Other gems include 'the wonderbra effect,' 'architects are the new gods,' and my favourite 'Dulchies,' that is Dublin people who move to the country. I think EP are trying too hard to be cool and sophisticated.

I can't believe this is the second time that I get to write this on a music board but I really like McWilliams but the archetypes that he tried to invent for that book are ridiculous.

I wonder what phrase David McWilliams would use to describe those people who pay crazy money to stand in a field for a weekend regardless of weather conditions, pay crazy money for drink and food and are crazy enough to go and see him instead of good music.

The Long Blondes, Minotaur Shock, Giveamanakick, Modeselektor and Rachid Taha were just added to the bill aswell. Slowly but surely there are more and more interesting acts popping up on the line-up.

I saw DJ Shadow on Friday at Sonar, and it´s NOT a DJ Shadow gig. The tour is "DJ Shadow presents..." and basically it´s just Shadow DJing under some of the s**ttest rappers I´ve ever encountered. Shadow had to apologise to the crowd, saying "I guess you guys didn´t read the ticket" and then did two of his own tunes. But the gist of it was Shadow playing Notorious BIG tracks and these whoareyiz rapping over it. Absolutely awful.

But with him listed to appear on both Friday and Saturday at EP, maybe he is doing the 'DJ Shadow Presents.....' one night and then his own set the next. Hopefully anyway!!!
