Bloc Party could have the worst image and haircuts in the world and it still wouldn't deter from the fact that Silent Alarm is one of the best albums of the year so far.

The biggest problem facing Bloc Party is the inevitable rush to label them crap after NME hyping them for the last year or so. No band can possibley live up to that hype. I was starting to hate them myself before I even heard 'silent alarm' purely because every wannabe music critic were saying "I have this album months before its due out and it's great." Only to change their minds when mere mortals get to hear their ablum. (Incidentally why bother telling people how many months you got the album before its release date?) I like them, they're fresh and their lead singer has an excellent unique voice.

it is a bit lame when people take the album on as a fashion accessory, making a point of the fact that they loved it before most heard of it but even worse is dismissing music just because it's the flavour of the month. If you've heard the Bloc Party album or even singles and don't like it that's fair enough but i wouldn't overlook an act just because they've been hyped to f*#k. Have to say I first saw them on Jools Holland - they were tight, drummer was very original but the music wasn't my buzz. Later i got a loan of the album and after a few weeks and listens i loved it, some brilliant stuff on it, might have been my album of the year had it not been for Arcade Fire

..channel1 are indeed a class act and cheers for the thumb up on the latter
