this is good news - 'an taobh tuathail' is already a brilliant show and now because it can play english language tracks it can only become more eclectic and offer a much-needed alternative for people outside dublin... "RTÉ RnaG unveils new youth service Anocht fm, RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta's dedicated service for younger listeners featuring English-language songs, will be launched next month. Described as a radical departure from mainstream RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta programming, Anocht fm begins on Monday 2 May 2005, broadcasting seven days a week between 9pm and 1am. Rónán Mac Aodha Bhuí will present 'Géill Slí' ('Give Way'), a programme mixing the best music, studio guests and competitions on weekday evenings from 9.02pm to 11pm. Now in its sixth year, 'An Taobh Tuathail' ('The Other Side' or 'Flipside') will now be broadcast from 11pm to 1am and, for the first time, presenters will be able to play songs with English-language lyrics. Another highlight of the Anocht fm schedule is Áine Hensey's singer-songwriter-driven Saturday night music show 'An Ghealach Ghorm' ('Blue Moon')."

Theres a really good show on Radio na Life as well, Monday evenings 4:30 - 6:00. Not sure of the name (its in Irish!) but the DJ is very good, and she plays a very varying but always good mix, (got my first taste of the soweto gospel choir there)

I love Taobh Tuthail, I don't really speak Irish. The show is excellent and I've been listenin to it for a long time. I hope this new move doesn't fuk around with the show too much and turn it into a depressing indie/singer-songwriter show, I can listen to Phantom for that crap.
