I have to agree with Una. I'm really not feeling Plan B either.
i'll join that club too, very poor album re the Mercury, would i be right in thinking that Gemma Hayes has been the only Irish nominee in the last few years?
The Thrills were nominated for, I presume, their less mediocre frist album. Also ... and Plan B are/is?

yeah, him. Does anyone have a copy of the Mercury longlist? I think there's about 210 artists on it - people who actually entered the competition. I think subscribers to Music Weekly got emailed a version of it, but I can't find it anywhere online.

I'd like to see a nod for the wonderful Shack's Corner of Miles and Gil, quite possibly my favourite album of the year so far. Though I suspect the Arctics and Hot Chip will be up there.

hey una - is this what u mean? found it on the Record of the Day board. they said its the list of UK and Irish acts who had albums out but list seems very short to me. Maybe these are the ones who entered? after all, unlike other prizes, you have to hand over cash (I think its a grand) to enter the Mercury. A few irish names on this list including Julie Feeney. Good to see she spent the Choice cash on something useful!!! Monday July 10 2006 Mercury Prize - what do you think? Dear subscriber, The music industry will gather next Tuesday (July 18) to learn which albums have made it onto the shortlist for this year’s Nationwide Mercury Music Prize. Ahead of that announcement, Music Week is carrying out a survey to find out which albums the industry believes should be on the shortlist and is interested to know what your 12 choices would be. To help you with this task, here below is a list of the British and Irish acts who had albums out in the qualifying period so would therefore quality to make the shortlist. Please mail your list to: mwalert@musicweek.com. Thank you. Vasthi Bunyan will probably get a nod. The Research record is deadly, one of my faves of the year.

A couple of Irish acts in there, which is nice to see even if it's only an early shortlist.

no irish act again - u wonder how they can call it a british and irish list. but thats why the choice award was so successful this year my money is on Editors though i also think Hot Chip's album is a good one.
