    Come on admit it, that flash mob craze was just stupid, people meeting up randomly with no proper purpose. Doing something pointless but now flash mob has got a purpose, it's a silent disco on the go. "Hundreds of people descended on Liverpool Street station for the biggest ever turnout for the latest internet craze - mobile clubbing. Armed with MP3 players loaded with favourite tracks the "clubbers" arrived on the concourse just after 7pm on October 11th. Students, business people and office workers danced in silence as they listened to their iPods among commuters listening to announcements about late trains. Details of the time and venue were sent by email. The event is similar to the flash mobbing movement pioneered in New York which involved large numbers of people gathering to conduct bizarre activities. One commuter said: "It was entertaining if strange to see all these people gyrating to their own beat. It was the Soul Train arriving at platform one."     sign up for the dublin oe at www.mobile-clubbing.com it was mentioned on the panel last week so id say there'll be loads up for it if they organise one i will so be there

    we all live in isolation. Such moments are an abstract attempt at providing a sense of togetherness, all be they anonymous. Actually no, it has no point. But maybe that's the point. Or something.

    just a bit of fun plus the novelty factor, same reason there were massive queues for silent disco at the festivals. What could be the darker side of this rapid mass mobilisation of people, riots, stampedes, terrorism.......

    Silent Discos are a bit s**t though. Sure the first 30 seconds are fun, the adrenalin rush of knowing that you are dancing with headphones, but after the initial high, you realise that you are in fact dancing to a crap dj with headphones on. It seems we have gone from giving two fingers to the police with raves and free parties, to the point where we are all to willing to keep the music down. FIGHT THE SYSTEM!!

    yeah silent discos suck, you have to take off your headphones if you want to talk to anyone like and the ones at Oxegen werent loud enough

    But isn't a silent disco just people being isolated together? Just get van / hooj estate car (you can buy volvos for peanuts these days), install massive sound system, park up, disturb the peace. A friend of mine used to use his humble 2CV as a mobile instant party. Sound system was probably worth more than the car.
