Irish folks are 'Event' Junkies. Most are going because its Slane, Oasis didn't sellout Marlay Park 2-3yrs ago.

that's sort of what i was thinking. i remembered they hadn't sold out the last time they played here. is it just that people refuse to go unless they can be gauranteed a 2 and a half hour journey time each way? was marlay park not enough hardship for people to go through?

fair enough, oasis brought out some music that was kind of ok once upon a time and i really enjoyed them the first time i saw them at slane. but they've been pretty much a spent force for the last 10 years. and let's face it, it's not like you can be gauranteed a nice sunny day out.

did anyone on this forum buy tickets. i'm not gonna make fun. i'm just curious.

Yeah, it's strange how when they played Marlay Park it wasn't much of a big deal and it didn't even sell out. Now, they play Slane and 80,000 tickets are gone already? Mully is right: Irish people are 'event junkies'. They're going simply 'because it's Slane' which is ridiculous. It's going to be full of one-gig-per-year types and groups of pissed, vaguely aggressive groups of 'lads' . The Prodigy are supporting. All in all, sounds horrible. Saw them on BBC 2 late sunday night at that Electric Proms thing, so boring.

Was there this sort of reaction when plenty people (including people here, probably) bought their Electric Picnic 'early bird' tickets before even ONE act is announced? And is being an event junkie such a bad thing? If I offered you a Glasto/Benicassim ticket for next year you'd probably bite my hand off up to the elbow, and there'd be little talk of event junkies. Perhaps the fact that it's boring old Oasis and "groups of pissed, vaguely aggressive groups of 'lads'" is clouding the matter.

I think the reasons you've just mentioned are pretty good ones for not going to oasis. i don't think the matters too clouded at all. Let's face it, Oasis are boring. I think there's a difference between going to the festivals you've mentioned and going to see oasis. Generally, there's so much happening at electric picnic and glastonbury that there's bound to be something exciting or interesting happening there, there's something there to cater for everyone's taste. And the vibe is meant to be pretty relaxed as well. Or at least so I hear, having never gone. At least at Electric Picnic if you don't want to hang around with pissed up twats all day, it's possible to get away from them. It's feckin impossible at Slane. And there's a lot of them.
If you go to Oasis at slane, all you get is Oasis. There's no other entertainment there. It's like going to a concert in the Point except a million times more miserable. And with 50 times more knackers.
I guess what I'm saying is I can see why people would buy tickets to the electric picnic without knowing the line up but I don't know what people like about slane. Or Oasis these days. Please someone enlighten me

Sorry been on out of the country for last two weeks so have not been staying in touch with music scene. Oasis sold out in a matter of minutes I'm shocked to say the least. Thought people were over them. Would love to have ac dc headlining it. Ah well such is life best of luck to them hope they get some "Sunshine" for it

Unfortunately I was away too, and was unable to get a ticket. I think the new album is a fine listen too. Maybe it sold out because they've had a bit of a resurgence in popularity the last few years? There's been more positive coverage than during the release of Don't Believe The Truth, that could be a factor possibly?
