Bono has been hired by the NY Times to pen between six and ten op-ed pieces next year. I presume he'll use most of these articles as a platform for his drop the debt efforts, but hopefully he'll branch out a bit and get stuck into other matters, maybe even some relating to music god forbid. No matter what his writing style is something I've often found to be quite grating at times, hopefully he'll reign it in a bit with his pieces for the Grey Lady. But I have my doubts.

I heard a rumour that Keith Richards is to begin a gardening column with the Sunday Times. Once the word "weeds" were mentioned, he was onboard.

God, I really can't imagine what Bono's gonna come up with - I'm almost cringing already.

Hmmm.... apart from his debt campaign and music, what other things would Bono write about? Would he go all sociological like Fintan O'Toole and John Waters? Poetically reminiscing on his epic life, like the godlike Con Houlihan? Or would it be a society column more like Barry Egan: "Bumped into dashing man-around-town Larry Mullen Jnr and his uber-goddess wife Mrs Larry in an exclusive Riviera hotspot last week..."

(PS I presume you asked him for an op-ed for CLUAS too.)

When Bono speaks, it's mostly wishy-washy, incoherent, pseudo-philosophical claptrap. God knows what the column will be like.

I dunno, he's had his moments - the impromptu speech halfway through 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' on the Rattle and Hum film was pretty powerful stuff. At least you don't get the mid-atlantic drawl and self-important posturing when he's writing as opposed to speaking, I suppose.

That's a very roundabout way of saying "he talks s**te"!

Useless pub fact no. 427: Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), is a columnist for Octane magazine.

Does Alex Kapranos still write about food for The Guardian?

"Glasses clinking clicking, clashing crashing" (?). Sounds like a Leaving Cert student trying too hard to use a bit of alliteration to impress the teacher.

Such writing indulgences of his aside, I have to say I was glad to see he's writing about music (at least in part). That said the article all seemed a bit pointless.

Bono's piece in the NY Times was amazing, he never mentioned the fact that he woke up on Sinatra's couch in a pool of piss, but anyway.. the painting and article were both impecable.

" here Boner.. please leave - I'll give you a picture (painting) called Jazz (jizz) whateveaaaaa... fuck off out of my house dude"
