here's a list of the bands mentioned on this thread, there are a huge amount. the problem with threads like this is that every band listed either posts on this board or has friends who do. some people even named their own bands.
this is why its very difficult to have metered discussion on irish bands, everyone knows everyone else and everyone has an agenda.
on top of that some of these bands are quite poor, how can people suggest them as best bands in dublin? i find some hard to believe. (if they are fair enough).

The Mound are a Meath band! well.. they were to start off with, now their half Meath, a quarter Dublin (I think..) and a quarter American.
I vote The Corpo. Closely followed by The Rednecks.

Erm, would now be a bad time to answer this and say that yes we do have a new EP coming out (called Four Thorns released fri 27th October, launch gig that night in Whelan's)?
It would? OK, I won't so..

Yeah, probably the Rednecks... What's the deal with The Jimmy Cake at the moment does anyone know? They've been awfully quiet in the last 12-18 months, and no updates to their website in a long time.
they've lost some members and recruited some more. work continues on the next album. i saw them play in the sugar club a while back with the new people. it sounded good.
Thanks... was slightly worried they'd slipped into the great beyond. Saw their gig the summer before last when they did a ton of new songs and the trumpet player was leaving but hadn't heard anything about them since.

oh yeah i got confused by the fact that they want the public to "dig deep into their pockets" but then dont want to pay any tax.
my mistake.
no no, my mistake, the thread must be about band's financial ongoings rather than musical output
PQ
Well if we're judging them on their musical merits then no, no f**king way.
boy, zooropa, achtung baby, joshua tree ... please

I'd have to add another x to that list. I'm living in Australia now and the Dudley Corporation still kick the s**t out of a vast majority of bands I've heard anywhere. Dudley for Taoiseach. I have to laugh at people that put down the Irish (and Dublin) music scene. We've got alot smaller population than Australia but in my humble opinion, apart from Xavier Rudd, there are no current up and comning Aussie acts that come anywhere near the corpo or RoL. ACDC was the best and worst thing thst happened to Aussie music

What about The Grates, Architecture In Helsinki, Gotye, Youth Group, New Buffalo, End Of Fashion? All relatively new and really good Aussie acts.

True. The only ones I've seen live are end of fashion and I wasn't all that impressed though. I just wouldn't rate any of those bands any where near the corpo or RoL. I may have been a bit harsh in my critique of Aussie bands but I still think the standard is higher in Dublin/Ireland

I have to completely disagree about the Aussie music scene which I think is just incredible, Dallas Crane, 78 Saab, Machine Translations, The Drones, Sarah Blasko, The Gin Club, Gelbison, Old Man River, The Sleepy Jackson, Dappled Cities Fly, You Am I, The Panda Band... Check them all out and then come back to me!
Unfortunately there is no comparison to the Irish scene, such is the high quality over in Australia, but things are definitely improving in Dublin.

The last album by The Drones 'Wait Long By The River And The Bodies Of Your Enemies Will Float By' is extremely over-rated. Despite having an interesting album title, the music just doesn't know where it is going. Shame really as there are hints of the band being able to create something of entertaining value - but as an album it fails to keep you intrigued.
I do agree that there are plenty of Aussie bands doing good stuff at the moment, but I also agree that the same is happening on the Irish scene. So comparing the two is pointless really.
