I think Tycho Brahe\Tychonaut have indeed gone their separate ways.. As far as I know Carol Keogh does vocals now for a new group called 'The Natural History Museum'. Ten Speed Racer should have been much better known, that first album and the EP preceeding album two are crackers. I saw the drummer Terry Cullen's new band Dae Kim play recently and they do a version of Ten Speed Racer's song Yo-Yo (which was sung by him on the album originally). As for other lost bands.. Rollerskate Skinny?

Tychos are gone, aye, but Carol is still writing with Donal, so it's two thirds Tychotastic. Heard some of the new recordings, very lovely.
She's also kicking out some jam in The Natural History Musuem, kinda avant garde ambienty electronic stuff, tis very good, and she's still crooning away with the autamata's.

Joan of Arse died about 3 years ago now, with one completed yet unreleased album, and another almost completed album. Lazy lazy.
They then reformed as "The Law Court of Christ", did one or two gigs and died away, but Jean D'Arse himself is back with a solo project called The French Letter A. Very superb, if a little pink

I'm a big Microdisney and Fatima Mansions fan who, for some inexplicable reason, hasn't kept up to speed with Cathal's solo stuff. The new one, the head scratchingly titled "Foburg" is absolutely marvellous though, as angry and bilious as anything he's ever done. |

Fatima Mansions 'Viva Dead Ponies' would be in my top ten Irish albums for sure. Defo one to check out if you missed it first time round. Saw them play a savage gig in the Rock Garden about 10 years ago..
I believe the remnants of Revelino now play in a wedding band! Have seen them at a few weddings in the past couple of years and I declare them to be the best wedding band in the world......ever!

Rollerskate Skinny are on the verge of a reunion so watch this space..
Regarding bands long gone Power of Dreams are a sad loss. The first album is amongst the best debuts you'll ever hear..
Also, Into Paradise had a song called 'Why Don't You?'. Anyone remember it/Have it?
Anyone remember Stano?? He released a self-produced record in 1990 which basicly U2 completely ripped off for A Baby and Zooropa.. Apparently!! Anyway, if anyone has a copy of this, get in touch. I have a lovely set of delph to swap for it.

For me the Subterraneans...'Slum' and 'Maxi Joy' were two great singles, outstanding live, like The Clash meets Happy Mondays, and they did great covers of Changeling and Sophisticated...they shoulda been huge.

I was gonna mention Power of Dreams and Into Paradise but I thought I was going too far back into the mists of time!!!! 2 Brilliant bands. Yes, Power Of Dreams debut was fantastic (1990??)...all current young Irish bands should listen to that (and weep)...Into Paradise: still listen 'Churchtown' and 'Down All The days' now and again. |

"LIR" are playing Whelans on the 23rd of December. Their bass player is an integral part of David Gray's band - "Robert Malone". Their keyboard player is none other than the highly regarded "David Hopkins" now residing out of San Francisco. "Ro Byrne" is still writing recording and playing regularly as "Earthquake Hair", ditto lead singer "Dave McGuinness" who has had much live success with "Bigwig". "Colm Quearney" is a staple of the live scene and has released many singles as well as two wonderful L.Ps "The World's Not Round" and "Body Electric", he's otherwise known as "Q". Original drummer "Craig Hutchinson" is enjoying the simple life but LIR's other regular drummer and sticksman on the 23rd is none other than "Johnny Boyle" the Frames tub-thumper!!

They're doing a free show in Cork this Tuesday.

Neil Higgins out of the Dirty Beatniks is now one half of Padded Cell, the other member is fellow big beat veteran Richard Sen of the Bronx Dogs. They're signed to D.C. recordings which is run by J. Saul Kane aka Depth Charge.
