Anna is a great writer. I'd much rather pay to read her stuff every week than certain journalists who have regular slots in big publications. The majority of the reviews/Op Eds/Music Features on Cluas are of a high standard. And I know that I always go on about it, but hardly anyone on this discussion board ever mentions the reviews on this site. More people should submit to the site and the content would be updated more often.

to be honest, i think the standard of editorial stuff on cluas is OK rather than brilliant. but thats what u get with "free" magazines - a certain dip in quality. there are always some good writers in free mags (theres a new writer in The Event Guide called Siobhan Kane who is v good and when I first came to dublin, there was a brilliant free mag here called Dropout run by donal dineen, jim carroll, donal scannell and others) and you can always see the ones who will go onto the nationals or bigger mags. one main reason why we pay cash for mags is that we're paying for the editorial filtering system which culls badly written reviews, conflicts of interests and the like. i think the best thing about cluas is the bulletin boards - full of good cheer and recommendations (thanks to cluas, i am now a death cab for cutie nerd). just my view, so please dont jump up and down on my head.

Just to point out that certains journos from the national press (no names) have, er, borrowed both ideas and text from previous cluas articles - not always with, eh, attribution, so what you are be paying for, you can get, from time to time, here for free, first. Just the facts.

As far as I know, the Irish Times supply the printing side of things because they have spare capacity in their Citywest place and AP do the news. It will be very light news, most news stories around 2-300 words and fluffy features. Any music coverage will be slight or showbiz - they wont be reviewing the new Sigur Ros album in any great detail for instance It will be distributed in a good few centres nationwide. Iarnroid Eireann and Bus Eireann have refused to have it given out free on their property so expect to see it given out by people outside bus stations, train stations and at every traffic gridlock location in the land!
There is an interesting piece in the Phoenix as to why the Metro has been delayed. Apparantly INM's lawyers are battling Associated's lawyers over the name 'Metro'. Like all good media stories...it starts with an injunction!
