Agree with few bands/people mentioned - Rachael Yamagata is really good - Reason Why is a song I've fixated on recently Jesse Malin Postal Service Drive By Truckers Spoon Jack Johnson - Brushfire/On and On seem better than In Between Dreams - just got it though and haven't given it that much of a listen. Old Crow Medicine Show are just great fun. Cowboy Junkies are well known, are they not?? Their gig in Vicar St last summer was pretty much sold out. The Eels and Dave Matthews Band don't seem to be that well known in Ireland (among my friends anyway!) and they deserve to be. The 88 - heard them on the OC - How Good can it get and other mp3s at site - www.the88.net Not band but person - Gina Villalobos is really good - bit like Lucinda Williams but quite original - has few mp3s at her site - http://www.ginavillalobos.com/

just remembered a guy who definately deserves a mention: david hopkins. he's an irish singer/songwriter based, i think in l.a. for those of you who shudder at the very sight of the words songwriter and singer separated by no more than a forward-slash, (), be assured that hopkins himself hates the label because it "brings to mind wispy folksy troubadours and incense and hippies and stuff." check out www.davidhopkinsmusic.com - i think itunes also has his album, 'here comes the bright light' (sample of review from southofmainstream.com: "David Hopkins' LP Here Comes the Bright Light earned my highest rating ever not because he re-invented the wheel or explored uncharted musical territory, but because he does what hundreds of sad British-sounding lads (Editor's Note: Hopkins is Irish...just for full clarification) are doing, only a hundred times better. Hopkins is good the way chocolate chip cookies are good: familiar to the senses, yet still somehow tantalizing, exciting, and satisfying." he has a new single and album coming out in ireland soon, and is most definately worth investigating. and just for clarification, i don't work for him.
