Loveless is the definitive shogaze album. Admittedly(u caught me) Ride and Spacemen 3 were earlier. But Ride were really inconsistent. Spacemen 3 were great although i genuinely think that when any1 thinks of shoegaze today they think of My Bloody Valentine or Chapterhouse cos they had a more complete sound.

Plus i cant take ride seriously anymore but the vocals remind me Gary Lightbody.

Shoegaze vocals are supposed to be atmospheric not corny

Neways enuff of my rant.

"Crooked Rain" Crooked Rain by Pavement(not my favorite pavement album but like most people its the one that got me into them)

"Washing Machine" by Sonic Youth(most true sonic youth fans hate this one i love it)

"Disintigration" by the Cure( great)

"MY Pain and Sadness is more Painful and Sad than yours" by Mclusky (one of the wittiest albums ever made)

"Blue Sunshine" by the Glove (had to order this one in cos it was quite rare, now u can buy it in HMV meh. Its great."

"Tubular bells" by Mike Oldfield (im sure this a very cliched album to pick. I didnt even like it the first time i heard it. But its great studying music due its 45 minutes in length. Play it as you study and take a 15 minute break everytime it finishes. Not that i listen to it or study nemore. Im talking leaving cert kinda thing.)

"On Avery Island" by Neutral Milk Hotel(genius)

"Electro-Pura" by Yo la Tengo (the album that introduced me to my favorite song "tom courtenay")

I really wanna stop now but ive got more.

"Loveless" by My Bloody Valentine. (invented a genre, possibly my favorite genre, so kinda have to include it. Gets better as it ages. Still cant believe an Irish band could come up with this)

"Mule Variations" by Tom Waits( The album that got me into Tom Waits)

okay thats enuff

but yeah there they are

Oasis- Definitely maybe- started me off as a passionate music fan and made me pick up the guitar and eventually lead to discovering the super furry animals
Van Morrison- Astral weeks- Developed my musical tastes and influenced me in a huge way
Wu tang Clan- Welcome to the 36 chambers- I didn't want to like hip hop but this album changed my mind. Also lead me to listen to alot of blue note soul and jazz compilation albums
Damien Rice- O- Heard it after a s**tty break up and it just sounded so right. Got me back into playing guitar after my over indulgence on hip hop
Since then I don't think i've really had any one album that has been overly inspiring. Having said that Illinoise did get me going for a while

aghh how could i have forgotten entertainment!, closer and debut. I suppose it is hard to come up with a definitive list.

Since I Left You .........by the wonderful, amazing, talented.... 'The Avalanches'. That's a definate for me. It was left on replay in our house in college for two years and I'm still not sick of it. What an influential album! Perfect for chilling out to, getting ready to party to, partying to, just one of those rare perfect albums. Wow.
