I'm only asking coz it "conveniently" concedes with the release of U2's new single. After hearing it.. it IS a single. Tastes great in terms of sound, but emotionally it is an Easi-Single that will be shat out sooner than a Mc D. Is Obama nat a frappuchino wairing to be binned?

I'm worried something will happen to Obama today. The new U2 single is embarrasingly bad. And Starbelgrade's home from the pub and come straight to the discussion board again.

    The signs are not good.

Gotta say Obama will be securitied to the eye balls today and every day...I'm looking forward to his speech...Probably the most positive and impressive public speaker I've ever seen..even better than Bill. Hope thats not all he is though...

Love the U2 single..slick, short, produced well and catchy. perfect "radio hit"...I remember when the Fly came out and people were like "It doesnt sound like U2"...now its a classic.

Personally though I never dug the earnest waist-coat wearing U2..they're a better band when out of their comfort zone...one things for sure.they willl never be popular on boards like this :)

Heard the new Bell X 1 single last night too..great stuff..totall talking heads but still really good...I used to despise this group but their last record was really good.

Still haven't heard it. I wasn't going to suffer through colm and jim jim yesterday just for that.

I think someone's being doing a little late night drunken typing. Frappuchino waiting to be binned?? Dude, wtf?? I'm pretty sure that it's going to be impossible for anyone to off obama today. security's going to be tighter than a duck's arse. While there is a certain amount of anti obama sentiment ("Obama's a commie etc.") over there, i think his land slide victory shows it's very much in the minority. I think American's are more accepting of him than people over here are possibly willing to believe. For months before the election, people over here kept saying "Oh sure, Americans are saying they'll vote for him now, but their real racism will show through when they're alone in the polling booths". A theory that was quickly shot down.

Which hopefully won't happen to obama

Oh, there are plenty people around here who like U2 (I'm an Achtung Baby/Zooropa man myself), but IMO the new song just sounds so tired.

Got no opinion on the Barracks Obama other than he looks like he needs a good feed. :D

Like Aidan, I love Achtung Baby and Zooropa, it's by far the high point of their career, head and shoulders over the overrated Joshua Tree which I think has aged quite badly. I will have to give it a few listens before making up my mind, but on initial radio listening, it just sounds so limp and phoned in. It's lacking that grab you by the throat punchiness of the best Achtung Baby singles. If this album isn't great, I really do think it's time to call it a day. "All that you can't leave behind" was acceptable, refreshing and needed in its back to basics approach after they overcooked things a little with "Pop". At the time it seemed like it was an album of a band pausing to catch its breath, reassess things before moving off in a new direction, except they didn't. I lost interest in them after that point. :(

being honest, any love i had for the band was killed off over 2 very long hours in croke park. Dodgy sound aside, it could have been a great gig if Bono had shut the hell up between songs. I am at a rock concert, I don't need a 15 minute long sermon on North Korea or whatever else he's crappin on about. they were amazing at slane but i haven't been able to listen to them since croke park. and that last album really didn't do a lot for me.

U2 have just never done anything for me, simple as. Some good songs, once, but now anything of interest is just buried in boring production. But then I haven't heard the new single, so I can't say anything about that.

New Bell X1 single? Is there an album on the way? I thought they were being pretty quiet of late alright...

Nobody's going to take the risk of attempting anything on Obama today, but there are going to be some fractious Americans getting riled up for the next few months until he settles in... That said, I was in America for the few months before the election, and election fever was not all that, well, feverish. Apathy rules.

Yep new album "Blue Lights on the Runway" will be released in March. New single "How Your Heart Is Wired" is up on their MySpace, still havnt heard it though. They have dates planned for Limerick, Galway, Dublin, Derry and Belfast in March & April. Quite recently guitar/keyboardist Brian Crosby left the band and Tim-Neosupervital-O'Donovan said he will no longer be furnishing the bands live drumming requirements as he wishes to pursue his solo material full time.

Good luck to 44 and I'm enjoying the riffage on the new U2 single

Bell X1 in Talking Heads related shocker...must check out the tune

For anyone interested I see Hybrasil have just put up a live version of Retaliate First which has its David Byrne moments also

Not sure - you don't ever get asked that in my neck of the woods! Anyhow, it looks like the New Leader of the Free World survived his first day in office... that speech bored me to tears though - he sounds like an X-Factor contestant pretending to be Martin Luther King.
