    March 21st show...

    Paddy Casey ; jesus, even he looks like he's pissed off with his own songs as he's singing them.

    The Coronas; James Blunt on speed. I thought you couldn't get away with being this s**te anymore. Apparantley I was wrong.

    Paul Heaton; He made a joke about his last solo album selling only 1 copy. He probably exagerrated.

    Dry County ; the best performance of the night. Post rock meets Radiohead, meets dance. Great use of the Roland SP-404 & SPDS samplers. Not too gone on the vocals, but that's me being picky.

    Fight Like Apes; Highly dissapointing. The first song they played was bloody awful & the rendition of "Lend Me Your Face" failed to really ignite. They sounded better last time they were on.

    "Computer says 'No' "... hmm, my PC's a day ahead of me! I honestly haven't seen a band as bland as Coronas on the TV in a long time. Apart from the fact that they looked liked they dressed themselves from the sales in Top Shop, they sounded like pub-rock-lite from the early 90s.

    Just been on their website checking out the lyrics to one of the songs they did last night;

    "So understand yeah you've seen it all you know it's real
    But you're a better man when you're in love that's when you can feel
    And what she don't know is how long it takes to get you true
    Nowhere to go now she's reaching out to someone knew"

    Rhyming couplets. How very "lyrics written in the back of your copybook during double maths" of them. And their biog features the 2 worst cliches any biog can have ... "The lads were tipped as 'one to watch'." ... and .... wait for it... "The future looks bright for this promising young band."

    They're playing here in Sligo in April... I'm seriously tempted to go & heckle them.

    "I missed DRN completely" - you can see it here, they have all the performances up now http://dynamic.rte.ie/av/2348645.smil

    I didn't see it last night, I'll go and have a watch on-line now and see what's what. I did see The Coronas on the Meteors doing their "we drink all day and we sleep all night" or whatever it is song. Apparently that spent 16 weeks in the Irish top 40!

    The Coronas are utterly dreadful. The fact that such a dreary, creatively-bankrupt indie-rock-by-numbers band have achieved this level of success is just depressing. What is wrong with people?
    Gave 'Other Voices' a miss last night owing to the presence of P Casey and the aforementioned Coronas. Fight Like Apes are overrated-Dry County are excellent.

    I'm beginning to come round to the FLA being over-rated side. The two best bands I saw over the whole series were Halfset & Dry County.. never heard either before, so kudos to the programme for that.. my beef with them however would be that because they are relatively unknown bands (at least in my world), they didn't have them perform in front of the live audience & in Halfset's case, they edited the interview into the middle of the song.

    Meanwhile, while Dry County got to do just one song, Paul Heaton was on the show for no good reason & Paddy "the singing sheep" Casey did about 5 of his mind numbing numbers. I mean - he'd one f**king hit in Ireland.. hardly a big enough star to warrant that. As for Coronas.. I think it was put very succinctly by Quint.

    Sold, get this, 150,000 records in this country alone. 151,000 in total probably.

    I don't understand it either.

    The only explanation I can come up with is this;

    People are like sheep. Sheep follow sheep. Paddy Casey is a sheep. Therefor people follow Paddy Casey.

    The Coronas..c'mon the name ives it away??? named after a trendy mexican (is it really mexican??) beer tennagers drink instead of dutch on the southside...nonsence..
    Paul Heaton, I've always personally liked him, very talented underated songwriter, simple easy pop songs..
    Casey.....RAY D'ARCY......nuff said.

    Missed Dry County, still have a demo i got off them a couple of years back, good stuff.

    Best of the series was Ryan Adams closely followed by Interference/Fergus O'Farrell and Sons And Daughters. Best new Irish act was Half Set by a mile. Brilliant stuff. AS a whole, 'Other Voices' was very hit and miss this year-who the hell booked The Answer!!, still a fascinating series though.

    I like them, but Fight Like Apes looked out of place in a church. The sound was brutal, and they have much better songs than two of the three they played. A definite off-day.

    Dry Country were impressive indeed, hadn't really paid much attention to them before. The singer's Brendan Grace looks very familiar, he must work in a record shop or something?

    The Coronas are a joke. My god, they're bad...and it's a type of bad that is completely life-long. Picturehouse bad.

    Other Voices sounds like the type of show that would make me angry.

    Pretty much what I thought as well. When the schedule was announced the one band I was looking forward to seeing was Fight like apes, and it fell flat. Who chooses the songs to be shown? The whole series was forgettable. For me, the best performance of any series was the chalets.

    You People are a Bunch of Daft P****S. Let's get it right if we are bashing. The Coronas are named after the Typewriter that belonged to William Miller in the Film "Almost famous" not a mexican beer. I would imagine that the people bashing here listen to that two tits on a board crack whore Ke$ha...right. I guess their lack of talent is why they are Irelands #1 act and about to launch their first US tour. Maybe when you get to work and whip up another fish and chips for one of your customers you can turn up your radio and listen again. You should support the local talent before they disappear, or maybe not, you don't deserve it!
