Every year I get an invite for this and every year I fail to sort something out in time. Has anybody ever ventured down to Kerry for this? Is it worth going down for (of course a lot depends on the line-up)? Is it easy to get to/from?

Really Gar, you are really unbelievable in a Spinal Tap kind of way sometimes, its in fecking Dingle, prehaps the easiest part of the west to reach; you just get on the fecking bus and check into the first b&b or hostel you find when you arrive there. The problem with you is that you are rock and roll to the bone and, as such, the ability to make simple travel arrangements is beyond your grasp much as it is for Steve Tyler or Johnny Borrell. God help the bands you interview, you probably show up late for them My advice, take up the drums and form a rythmn section with Unicron, then hire a road manager. I hear the guy who works for Motley Crue is between gigs at the moment.

i went down last year and had a fantastic time, from grooving to asian dub foundation to being asked by a member of alabama 3 if i had any smack every second was enjoyable...although i don't think we saw dingle in daylight for the duration of the week!! as for access you can get a train, bus, plane to tralee (well the plane is to farranfore) and then a connecting bus to dingle that takes about 40 mins if i remember correctly anyone have any idea who they've lined up to play?

Jules, what the hell are you on about? Have you been smoking too much of that stuff? I didn't know exactly where the Other Voices was held, I presumed it was in some small village that would maybe have been difficult to get to by public transport.

I'd love to head down to this and had it all planned in my head until I realised I'll be out of the country :(

Why Dingle, its such a bloody awkward place to get to, its a long way from nearly everywhere in the country. It's all a big novelty to get Dublin folk out into the country. I couldn't be bothered heading down there for a gig in an old church, maybe if it was a summer festival it might have a purpose being there but in winter i think its just pointlessly awkward in an effort to be different. Provincial cities struggle to lure a few decent acts out of Dublin during the year and it seems like a waste getting acts to a small crowd in Dingle that for example Cork or Galway might not even get. Cynical maybe but anyway i've never had a whole lot of time for Other Voices.

I heard rumours like BellX1, The Arcade Fire and The Frames....

Not really my cup of tea but I'm sure there's an audience for them

    From the RTE website:

Among those who will be recording sets for the series are: Damien Rice, Lisa Hannigan, Josh Ritter, The Four of Us, Simple Kid, Director, The Rapture, Cerys Matthews, Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly, The Blizzards and Joan As Policewoman.

The series will be recorded over five sold-out nights in St James Church, in Dingle/An Daingean, Co Kerry next month with more acts to be added to the line-up in the coming weeks.

They're holed up in a church in Montreal right now recording the follow up to funeral and have no plans to play live until next Spring.
