Just got into work via broken umbrella and some prick driving through a puddle at 40 miles an hour soaking me. But then I checked out Hotpress.com's track by track review of Damien Rice's new record: "‘Me, My Yoke And I’: On the other hand, there’s a fist. ‘Me, My Yoke And I’ hinges around a mesmeric guitar figure, distorted vocal (“I moan like a big dog”) and general fractiousness siphoned straight from PJ Harvey’s Rid Of Me. Watch this one scare the crap out of the David Gray brigade at gigs. The heaviest thing he’s ever done."

Can't remember the tracklisting for the album but I think it's the only Juniper song on it. It's about him jerking off as a teenager apparently ... enter Jules in 5 ... 4 ...

argh - that song- argh! ooh how edgy, how unrestrained.. a song about jerking off! It'd have more artistic validity if he ditched the song and just masturbated on stage.

You can hear it here: http://www.kcrw.com/music/programs/mb It's about half way through.... Pretty s**t version to be honest, he makes a much better fist (if you'll excuse the pun) of it live...and obviously the reviewer hasn't seen him much live 'cause he's played it the few times I've gone to see him. Mind you, at least he actually waited to hear the song before criticising it...

did I criticise it? I just think a song built around a vocal "I moan like a big dog" is hilarious - that's not to say that I think it's s**t. Just funny.

No, sorry, I didn't mean you Una, I was talking about the thread from weeks back when he released the names of the song and everyone had a go. Sorry 'bout the confusion!

Una, why have you started another dreaded Rice thread??? It's just going to end being more fodder for another Jim Carroll/Discotheque column! 'Me, My Yoke and I' I can't get my head around this song title. I just can't. Is Rice mentally unwell?

Maybe he's singing about his last ectasy pill. "Me, My Yoke and I, Oh why does my Yoke just want me high, It stands there with its smiley face, asking me to swallow him post haste, But then I'll be happy, And that's just s**te as how can I possibly write an album unless I'm a miserable bastard, so alas it'll remain, just me, my yoke and I."
