I have heard the talent shows telling wannabes to sing in their own accent. From my perspective I find the sung Northern accent annoying, I think the damage was done by the awful Brian Kennedy, he has ruined it for me. I blame him because I used never mind when Juliet Turner sung in her own accent. So to sum up Dukes singing accent turns me off him. (That said I haven't listened to the album yet so maybe I should reserve judgement)

Don't listen to the album - go to see him live. I've found since friday's gig I can't actually listen to the album cos it's just not the same. Far and away among the best gigs I've been to in many a year, though I'm reluctant to brand it first in line.

True, I bought the first album last year after seeing him playing in the Village as a supporting act, but I was disappointed with the quality of the album compared with the amazing live shows he puts on. The new single Portrait though, sounds great and hopefully the rest of the album can capture the quirkyness and all round brilliance of the gigs.

def better live than recorded. also about the accent. i love that it's not just sung in his own accent but obviously written in a nordie accent( if that's possible?) like when he rhymes 'clown' with frankenstein' that would never work in a neutral mid atlantic accent

I have seen his live headline show in a small venue thats what I based my opinion on, I haven't heard the album.

He's supporting the Divine Comedy in November two days after I fly out to India. Grrrrrr!!! Should be a great gig though.

Ohh I'm heading to India in May. What are your travel plans? I've no idea where to start in India, but plan on traveling by land to Nepal and China.

Nepal is savage you'll love it. What time of year are you there, try do a trek in pokhara (the annapurnas) lovely scenery. Kathmandu is probably the coolest city in the world too, no paved roads, loadsa cows, n the best chocolate cake in the world!

In the early stages of planning the trip at the moment. Due to leave around end of May. But heard that's not a good time, with it being 45 degrees there. Part of an 'around the world' trip, that will include S'america and asia. Main priority is India so can either go there first or last but want to spend quit a lot of time there and Nepal, Bhutan etc.

im off to africa next november! yeah id say may is well hot in india, i was there december and january n it was pretty lovely, little cold in the mountains, but sure that adds to the fun! Learn spanish if you can before south america, its well handy, youll get by without it, but more fun with it. South America is ridicuously good fun. Lucky bastards!

Headin in exactly 4 weeks mesmelf. Meeting up with mates in Delhi who flew out 2 weeks ago to Mumbai and have been travelling up the west coast. It looks absolutely amazing. Some of the temples and backdrops are just breathtaking. Ive been speaking to quite a few people who've been to India including people who live in Delhi, and the general consensus is: stay the hell out of the cities! Really hoping to get to Nepal at some stage too.
