Any band that's in a position to sell stuff online will already be doing it through more established channels such as iTunes/Napster etc. Bands who are just starting out/trying to establish themselves and who are on Myspace would be kidding themselves if they tried to charge for downloading the songs. In fact if I came across a band that I'd never heard of trying to do this I'd be so disgusted I'd probably never listen to them again.

There are already a lot of precious bands on myspace who don't allow you download there songs and only listen to them whilst you are actually on their myspace page. I never understand this. Surely there is more exposure to be gained by people downloading tracks and playing them to friends etc.

I can't even see the point of Myspace in the first place. I can't think of a more pointless waste of bandwidth on the internet, I just don't get it. I'll admit that Lily Allen apparently gained exposure through myspace, but overall it seems to serve no point other than to make people who use it feel hip. Band spends ages creating a fantastic and expensive website page and then still feels the need for an ugly myspace page? I dunno. If anything, there are already too many places to sell MP3s, but very few good ones. Emusic is the best I've found so far, but the subscription model doesn't suit everybody.

Sorry Binokular - have to disagree with you - MySpace has allowed a few bands that i know to do swaps with gigs etc - in other words they've gotten in touch with bands in the US and elsewhere, struck up a friendship and then had places to crash, a hand with getting some gigs and even a lend of equipment while over there - and the invites are open in return back here - that sounds pretty good to me.

Not a fan of myspace myself. Great for bands and journos but there is an awful amount of s**te and it gave rise to that tosser Allen with her 'oh I'm so crazy with my smoking and drinking.'
