have to say fair play to the organisers of castlepalooza. i was there on sunday and it was such a relaxed fun festival. all the punters and staff alike were so chilled that it made for a great day. the setting was great aswell and it was cool to see a non corporate event go off so well. i really hope this is on next year again Richie CH1

Yeah, I was working down there for the weekend. Without a doubt it was the best fesival I have been to. It was small and intimate, everybody was there to have a good time and I was sorry to come home yesterday. I am looking forward to next year already. Who would have thought an 80's cover band could have been so cool..... The Blizzards were the surprise of the weekend and 8-ball has never sounded so good. Fair play to Cillian for putting it on!

That would be a shame...I know there was no room left on the bill months ago... it was a little quiet during the day but the whole place was just so easy going...I worked on the burger bar both days, during the day, and I loved every minute of it. The line up was never that strong but every band I saw was excellent. That neosupervital dude is mad.

While we're handing out pats on the back the folks who put Le Cheile on in Oldcastle deserve a lot of praise too. It was a really a well organised event and a lot of fun. I should probably declare a conflict of interest here by admitting that I played at it but all that means is that I had a reason to be around there checking stuff out.

I agree on the Le Chéile front. Colm, Noel, Derek etc are a joy to work with. The weekend was very relaxed, yet well put together.

So are we agreed that if a certain dublin band were offered the chance to play at castlepalosa and they turned it down out of puure snobbery and idiocy that it is in fact them that were the idiots ??I just cant believe anyone who wasent signed would turn down any festival gig like this ?!?! I dont even know who they were but there were a few of them ...

Yes Pol, we all agree with you and have the desire you have to call people idiots, don't worry

I wouldn't be too quick to condemn anyone as an idiot for not accepting a slot/gig without knowing the details? There can be many reasons for this. It is summer. Bands are people too. Occasionally people go on holidays. Many people get married in summer. Perhaps one or more members of a band might have been invited to a wedding that weekend. Many people in bands work. Perhaps one of more members of a band might have to work, and/or go away for work. I'm sure you get the idea. Can't imagine many unsigned bands would turn it down without reason. Anyway, sounds like it was deadly. Heard Le Cheile went down well too. Well done all involved.

Was Castlepalozza on in the same place as Mór used to be? I know that someone put on a festital in the same place that Mór had been on last year and there seemed to be quite bit of bad blood between the "Dublin crowd" and the local organisers. Might have been a reason that some Dublin bands turned it down.

Yeah it is in the same place, Charleville castle. i worked on the festival last year as stage manager. I thought it had brilliant potential but the decision to do the festival was done two or three weeks before it happened let it down on the big bands and crowd front. Perhaps the lack of civilty that you mention is what hindered it. That and the two weeks notice thing. Also the rave in the castle afterwards pissed off the caretakers, at least I think it did. I don't remember much except the singer from vesto varro trying to punch me coz i couldn't find a faulty mic cable. 17 hour shifts have that effect...

From what I know, alot of work was put in this year to Castlepalooza with no corporate sponsorship visible. Anybody I know working down there was worling for free. They are not the same organisers as the rave thing last year. Anybody who was there wanted this festival to work, and it did. I dont know if they made money but there was such a great vibe around the place.....I know I will be telling everybody I know to get their asses down next year....I just hope it doesnt get to big. I just cant wait til next year
