I know that a few people on this board either DJ or play in a band (or both) and I was just wondering what's the strangest request you've ever recieved from a punter whilst playing out. For years my favourite request was "It's my best friends birthday and I'm trying to shift his sister so will you play the Darkness". But on Monday night I was playing James Brown when some incapacitated redneck came up and slurred "Do you've any black man's music like Eminem".

I was asked for Razorhead the other night (turns out it was razorlight) – didn’t have ity anyway. Shiiiiiiiite! I was djing once in doyles - some one had reserved a load of tables cause and it was some chicks bday… problem was she was a real ‘chick’ chick if you get me and I was asked for tunes by pu**ycat dolls, girls aloud n s**t. Seriously – this was after id played some talking heads and joy division……. Did she REALLY think I’d have that kinda s**t? I dunno. Felt sorry for her tho – she obviously had NO idea of the music policy. She was pretty f**ked off I s**t you not!

A few years back i was at a gig in Eamon Dorans, it was either Richie Egan or Jeff Martin and some girl who looked like she had been out since work in all earnest screamed "Do you know any Aslan" in her best scanger accent. it still makes me smile.

Only request I've ever had while playing was to "f**k off, you're s**te".

I used to DJ in Doyles too, strangest request ' Walking in The Air ' by Aled Jones. One night 'Stretch' (The Manager) had double booked and had to throw a work event into our club. It was mayhem, it was nearly all girls, from a bank. I was fielding requests for Destinys Child etc whilst trying to play Pavement and the like. Eventually, they began to continually plug out the decks and speakers. One of them even managed to override the PA and started playing the radio As a side note I also bit through my headphones and had to play blind, so I finally gave up the ghost, tuned in FM104 and legged it. If any of you were there, I again apologise.

Text requests to radio stations can be fun too... er.. A recent example being "Can you play Yellow for my granny coz me grandad just died". Or "Can you play that song, yknow, the one with the drums".

jesus Punchbowl, that sounds horrible! I requested 'Toxic' from my mate @ Backlash once. He glared. And then played it.
