Has anyone seen or heard any interesting acts from the immigrant communities of the new Oireland (or whatever your preferred label for Irish society in the 21st centry does be)? Any recommendations? Any venues outside of the usual circuit that are a sound bet for something different and interesting? Any acts that fit such a bill you've caught in the past while and that you'd love to catch again? eoghan

Carol Aflat, the guy who plays the accordian/chases women beside brown thomas is pretty f-ing entertaining. He's like a singing pepé le peu with an... er.. accordian. I should write for rolling stone.

"which sounded a bit seig hiel to me." - I think we have a winner for 'ignorant comment of the month' There's a dancehall night in the Music Centre on Wednesdays with a Polish DJ and a Senegalese MC. I spoke to the DJ before and he brings over some Polish hip hop acts now and then, so he might now some other people doing stuff over here if you want me to get in touch with him.

Una, calm down love. It wasn't meant to be a serious comment, bad day at the office? It was an off the cuff remark. I'm not about to dissect the playlist of a dj playing in a bar. For what its worth, the stuff he was playing sounded similar to some of the nazi rock. As I can't speak polish, for all we know I'm probably right. If i was ignorant I wouldn't have gone there in the first place. Calm down dear

Funny you should say that. I actually pondered at (considerable) length at what would be an appropriate subject line for the thread before posting it...

I think 'Foreign Nationals' is the politically correct term to use.

*moderator hat on* I realise this wasn't intended as a serious comment, but in view of an extremely well known event in history, pretty tasteless and could be viewed as extremely offensive. Not going to make a big deal out of this, but please think twice before posting a "joke" like this again. Cheers. http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/worldwars/wwtwo/invasion_poland_01.shtml

Ah hold on, so far the only one offended is Una. If you're going down that route and start refering to the WW2 and all the bollix. It wasn't a joke, nor for the life of me can I see how it could be interpreted as extremely offensive. I said the music a dj was playing sounded a bit like nazi. Cheers for the link, I was unaware the Germany invaded Poland

Funnily, I read an article during the world cup refering to the Eng-Pol qualifying game in Poland. Both sides being hypocritical. The English singing '10 German Bombers' 60yrs after the war, even though when Eng played Ger in the final in 66, when memories & lost family members were fresh, The War wasn't mentioned by the fans. On the other side, the Poles were dishing out Nazi salutes on the terraces, ignorant of the events that started WW2.

Yup, plenty of Poles are fans of the nazis. Harsh but true. Anyway, Pravda plays good music at their polish night.

I was in the car yesterday evening and Off The Ball started talking about Horse Racing so I switched over to Tom Dunne. He was playing some Polish rap by a band called WWO, awful s**te.
