Any recommendations? hidden gems etc? I tend to frequent the Dice bar which in my humble opinion is one of the best bars in Dublin. Excellent music, relaxed and friendly vibe and great staff. And last night they had three fantastic looking female djs all doing their best Karen O impression. Anseo and Carnival are also excellent.

Despite my love of music I hate going to bars that are playing it. Much prefer a quiet pub where you can talk to people.

yes unicron favourite dublin pubs - kehoes, stags head, long hall, gravediggers, nearys, palace bar, ryans of parkgate street... anywhere with a seat, an open fire and a bit of comfort... aaaaahhhhh

Carnival is great And my mates The Clap are now djing there - proper deadly! I used to dj there - until i got booted out... but hey its still a great little spot. Anseo is cool also - pity both close so early. Doyles is ok - really great when this chick dj's downstairs tho.... yea... and she like really hot too.......and has loadza mates cough yea....!

Sheehans on the green for a quiet pint of beamish. But after that, i really like the oak on dame street, especially since you can go downstairs to the nite club afterwards. decent DJ and all. The mezz is great, but its purely for the window shopping. I used to like Doyles, but now i feel too old there...

O'Neill's on Suffolk St, a bit touristy but always had a soft spot for it. Thomas Reed's on Parliament/Dame st, great for a pint at 2.30 am and surprsingly spacious on a Sat nite. Stag's Head and Long Hall are good spots alright. Unfortunatey these days, seems to be more pubs that I don't like/detest than I do like. Getting old and grumpy...

You're not getting old and grumpy: the majority of pubs in Dublin city centre are big factory type efforts like Knightsbridge and Cafe Insane where you get charged ridiculous amounts of money for a pint and have to endure being crammed in beside nonces in their designer gear shouting at each other. That's assuming, of course, that the mongoloids on the door let you in in the first place.

But nice to go to places to hear new tunes etc. I like Thing Moat but it can be a bit hit and miss at times. A friend of mine likes all the factory type pubs so i've been to Cafe En Seine far too much, €5.80 for a pint they are currently charging.

A friend of mine wanted to meet some fella in there last month and I couldn't get in because I was wearing cons. I've never been happier to not be let in somewhere. Unfortunately for my friend my assertion that the guy was probably a prick if that's where he chose to frequent wound up being correct. Places like that just make me feel better about my mysanthropey.

The Ice Bar on Parnell St can be brilliant at times. Some good gigs there too.

Sin é i really like, especially on a Thursday night, great music and to quote nerraw, it also boasts some 'fantastic looking female djs doing their best Karen O impression' All the best auld lads pubs have already been mentioned and are where to go for a sitdown, a chat and some decent pints of Guinness (although seats in The Stag's Head are rarer than hen's teeth)

let's not forget Brogans, Grogans and the wonderful Handels (now s**tter as Karma) in Christchurch which has pints of Guinness for €3 Whelans is nice during the day as is Donohues on Baggot St

The Comet - have had many the night of good craic in there! Seriously! It's a good place to go with a big group. Although, anywhere is fun if the company is good I suppose, so in the purest sense of 'good pubs' you can strike it from the list.

I would whole-heartedly endorse Anseo.. Great vibe and great DJ's. Other than that, The Dice Bar is pretty cool. Carnival too.. And good old downstairs in the International (If you like chairs being broken over your back)
