This is a thought from recent Whipping Boy reunion. I must say I was looking forward to it but after gig realised that it was not that good. Heartworm was a good album almost dispite the band. One comment that was made I recall was that they where always sheep in Wolves clothing and I think its right..anyway prompted me to look through some old vinyl and dig out some records from past..Light a Big Fire..great lyrics..and also Scale the Heights..Goodbye to All that..which for my money was a truly great song /single..saw them live a number of times and they where a great great band..one of IRLs best in terms of songwriting and live performace..wonder what happened to them..also band called Fireflys from Cavan where good in mod type of way. Maybe some of the above would reform..get away from singer songwriter itus thats afflicting the music scene now.

Well then I agree with the WB comments. As for the other bands I did not like LABF at all. The Fireflys I only know through seeing them on TV when I was younger and a song called sticks and stones (?).As for Scale the Heights your post brings back memories of the baggot inn and a resedency they had during a particular summer about 1990. The word awesome springs to mind and I thought that at the time and still do now.The critics loved them and so did a lot of people who caught them live. I remember seeing many familiar faces at their gigs. They released one single and had some really strong songs that never made it to record and I think I may have some Fanning sessions. One of them left and the rest formed another band which was different but not the same. I do recall a few years back having a conversation with someone who knew one of them who said they actually had been recording again but heard no more of it. They kind of had a alt country ,Chills, Rem,Go-betweens and great live. Anyway thats all I can remember for you. By the way it seems some Journos also have the single in their collections see what you think of the link a reference perhaps? http://www.ireland.com/theticket/articles/2005/0930/1794905324TK3009KATETK3009DISC.html

Carlsberg - I do not know if STH are reforming but it would be good to hear some of their music. I do not know what they where recording beyond what I heard on the grapevine. Anyone else know?

Bob thanks for the info. I must say I had a soft spot for Light a Big Fire. Scale the Heights I saw a lot until the early nineties. I wonder what they recorded later on it would be good to find out. They had some great songs 'Disposable' being one that stays with me; 'Horseshoe' is another one. Funny you mention the Chills & Go-Betweens in your mail I do think they had that aspect to them which was unusual for an Irish Band. I have the single and some tapes which are good. But from what I recall of the live set they never put out the best stuff.
