The Arcade Fire and Mercury winner Antony and the Johnsons are among the artists nominated for the inaugural New Pantheon Award in the US. Billboard reports that the New Pantheon is modelled on the Mercury Music Prize and continues the work of the now-defunct Shortlist Music Prize, honouring albums that have sold less than 500,000 copies in the US. Irish artist Damien Rice won the Shortlist Music Prize for his album 'O' in 2003. The other nominees for the New Pantheon Award are: Animal Collective - 'Feels' Fiona Apple - 'Extraordinary Machine' Bloc Party - 'Silent Alarm' Death Cab for Cutie - 'Plans' The Decemberists - 'Picaresque' Kings of Leon - 'Aha Shake Heartbreak' MIA - 'Arular' Sufjan Stevens - 'Illinois' The nominees were chosen by a panel of judges including Elton John, Elijah Wood, Beck, John Legend, Keith Urban and Suzanne Vega. The winner will be announced on 6 February in Los Angeles.
