A quote from Cormac Battle (hold off on the personal attacks, people) talking about the show he has on Sunday nights. Cormac said: "This gives me the chance to play music that I love to a really wide audience and also to help new bands get heard. Only RTÉ 2fm has the ability and willingness to do that on a national level and I'm really looking forward to the opportunity and excited by the challenge." At the moment, he's on during the day, filling in for Larry Gogan. He was playing Madonna. Question. Does it make a difference who the DJ is, & what amount of influence does he have over the playlist ? Its a great oppertunity for New music to be played to new fans, instead its just same old same old.

My main complaint with Cormac Battle is that his voice is too 'daytime' for 'nighttime' radio. He sounds way to chirpy. Right after Jenny Heuson, you'd have this loud, shouty crashing voice which just doesn't fit. I know that complaint is kind of stupid - but it's just a pet hate I've been meaning to get off my chest

the producer of the show will have some control on the playlist, most 2fm shows have a 'no demo' policy bar the 2fm sessions, Dan Hegarty is about the only dj who seems to get the approval to play new irish stuff and i have heard him play unsigned stuff on his infrequent evening slots. Not only that but he's easily got the best taste in music on the station... http://www.rte.ie/2fm/story/1030217.html as for Cormac, rarely hear him play upcoming irish on his night time show.

Cormac Battle from the once mighty Kerbdog and Wilt is filling in for Larry Gogan??? How utterly peculiar. 2 FM is so f**ked up.

probably one of the worst radio stations in the history of irish radio in its current format. I actually find Marty Whelan less annoying then most of his other 2fm counterparts... how sad is THAT!?

The thing is, as far as I understand it, that a radio station will have 3 playlists, which are more or less made up like this: Playlist A:Latest big hits, in the charts now. Playlist B:Stuff on its way out of the charts Playlist C:Classic hits, the occasional Irish act on its way up All of the tracks selected get the final OK from the Station Manager, who will rarely ever consider if the song's are any good, he'll look at statistics etc.... Between 6am and 12am, DJ's will have to play between them: everything off the A list 5 times everything off the B list 3 times everything off the C list maybe once More or less now. I don't work for a radio station, so I don't know the exact figures etc. Then people who get to do a non-pop show, like your Tom Dunne's and your Jenny Heuston's, or if its a dedicated Trad show, or Hip-hop show, or whatever, then the DJ and producers get a free reign of whats played. So if this Battle chap has to work during the day, his boss will tell him to play Madonna and all the other A playlist stuff.

I'd rather quit than play Madonna. I just couldn't sit there playing Kylie and Picturehouse and New Radicals and Westlife and all the other musical effluent the station manager has added to the playlist for thst day...
