Why ? Because the modern album contains, at most if it is any good, between 1 - 3 good songs and for that I have to pay € 17 - € 25 ? I think not, when I can log onto i-tunes and buy those songs for €0.99 a piece ? The album is dead and buried, long live the jukebox.

ah no... if a respectable fan like yourself has ditched the album, what chance do we have? music can often be about 40 minute movements, not just 4 minute hits

While I respect your opinion on so many filler songs on albums nowadays, I have to disagree with ya Rev and say that the album is far from dead. I'll always prefer albums. Even if I only know one tune by a band, I'll still buy the album.

I'm not trying to bring down anyone's day here, I'm just saying that, in trying to work out my album of the year for the poll, I realised that I hadn't bought any and felt I should post up what I thought were the best songs I had listened to instead.

Understandable. But for me, I've spent this afternoon trying to think of specific songs to add to this thread. I came up with one's like 'I Burn Today' by Frank Black. But then realised that I liked his 'Honeycomb' album as a whole. By the way - good choice by J.J.

You might have heard it already but if you haven't you might want to check out the Headman mix of Manilla by Seelenluft. You can listen to an MP3 sample here; http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF122894-02-01-09.mp3

Nah, regardless of how many "good" songs are on an album, it's the album as a whole you remember. I never know any particular songs from particular albums, but always know details of the effect of the album, which is why when it comes to naming top songs: don't have the foggiest. Rarely even put a couple of albums on shuffle. I could see the death of the album coming with iTunes etc etc. Sad. Good call with Honeycomb Gar, haven't listened to that in ages. Love that shrimp song.

I don't really know to be honest. He's some European punk-funk fella called Robi Insinna who releases dancier stuff as Headman and more live sounding material as Manhead. You can check out his back catalouge here; http://www.discogs.com/artist/Headman and http://www.discogs.com/artist/Manhead He released a pretty good mix CD called Dance Modern on the Eskimo label last year and I'd reccommend the Chicken Lips mix of his track It Rough.
