Was wondereing if people had any opinions on the way certain irish bands are selling their material for use on advertisements etc. Do you think this is a good thing as it it gets your music out to a wider audience or is it maybe de-valueing your music if it isnt really a credible product thats being advertised?

Personally I'm not into bands going down the Moby route. But we all have to make a crust I s'ppose, and depends on what ad is for. Ad for say Amnesty International thumbs up, ad for MacDonalds thumbs down...

BellX1 on the Dyson ad is a bit of a grey area.

But that simplifies the matter to an unrealistic degree. Of course most musicians would have no problem having their music used to support a good cause. However, if music is your career and livelihood, and no matter how much you believe in it yourself, isn't paying the bills, then why shouldn't you exploit every avenue of promotion. Providing of course that you can justify it ethically.

this has been discussed a few times before, personally i have no problem with bands using ads to make money and get exposure, especially given the overcrowded state of the market for good music in the west at present. i mean it's silly the amount of good and also terrible bands out there. having said that, it can also depends on who makes the decision, some bands sign silly legal agreements and know nothing of what happens to their music. record companies must love these poor fools!
