Don't really agree with it (though it is his weakest album in my opinion) but it was a good read.

i thought it was a good review alright, definitely a different perspective to what you usually hear on here! agreed with a lot of it though, need to give it a few more listens, but it doesnt really seem so hot at the moment.

It's a pretty poor review made all the more redundant by comparing it to Amadou & Miriam, an album that was released with the sole purpose of getting white middle class people to listen to watered down Afrobeat. I'm not a huge fan of Cripple Crow but the bilge is just way over the top and the reviewer appears not to have heard any of Banhart's other albums which would at least give this one a context.

I really like that album and I think it stands up pretty well when compared to his other material.

That seems like a bit of a f**ked up statement. While the comparison may not fit into the review, i dont think its fair to write off Amadou & Miriam like that. The album isn't hugely different to the previous one of theirs which i've heard, apart from feeling the (positive) effects of Manu Chao's production. And in all fairness he is hardly a big name within the "white middle class" being much more popular in Latin countries. I think the point he was trying to make is that "Dimanche a Bimako" is an album which succeeds in being eclectic while Devendra's doesn't.
