Who's going? Who's excited? Dave Fanning's interviews with U2 are on tonight and RTE's filling up Saturday night - U2 mania has begun. Looking at some of the setlists and they're just alright - hopefully it'll be amazing! Unfortunately I've exams next week (Mon, Tues, Wed) and have tickets for Monday night and Saturday night, so trying to swap to Friday night so as not to have study guilt casting shadows on me in Croke Part (if anyone's up for a swap let me know!)

To be honest, while i do regard U2 as a decent band having some great songs, I just have no interest in ever seeing them live.

Well Norman, I'd hope your visual editing is a bit better than the shambolic sub-editing the Sunday Indo did for Fanning's interview with Bono and The Edge that appeared in last Sunday's edition. 'Twas the most persistent and shocking mis-use of the apostrope 's' I have seen in national paper in bleedin' yonks. Right I'm off now to get back to my copy of 'Eats, shoots and leaves'... eoghan

I agree Eoghan - I was re-reading every second line trying to figure it out!

I've seen them 3 times and unless I can get a ticket upfront, I wouldn't go again. Caught them 2 months ago in Seattle and while the show was good, it sucks when they're like ants on stage. And for $100 too. I was more impressed with Mercury Rev which cost me $16.

Ah Yes, the ever-persistent irritant that is the misplaced apostrophe as in the total unnecessary use of it in The 'La's', Stereo Mc's, 2 Many DJ's, etc...And while I'm at it shouldn't Audio 'Bullys' be Audio Bullies. Dopey gits.

I like U2, I think they're a good band. But I wouldn't pay through the nose for them. I don't understand why people get annoyed about U2 though. Getting pissed off about a band you're indifferent too is as stupid as paying crazy money for a ticket to see a band you're indifferent to. I had a good U2 moment yesterday in town. Rhythm Records on the quays was blaring out U2 and I went in and the place was swarmed with tourist. All they seemed to stock was U2 records, cds, posters, pictures, signed merchandise and the place was buzzing. On the wall there was a hand written sign reading 'IT IS OK TO MAKE PHOTOGRAPH'. The tourists were flashing their cameras at every possible angle. I've never seen this element of love with any other band on such a large international scale. It's kind of cool, if bizarre.

I got into pit last night - right in between the ends of the 2 arms - dead centre. Excellent view as slightly higher than those further in the pit. It was an excellent show - the lighting and all that was excellent. Running to Stand Still, City of Blinding Lights, Yahweh, Elevation and Streets were highlights for me. The sound where I was quite good - lost Bono for some of his chats but given that everyone around me knew every single word of every song and was belting it out it didn't really matter. About 1/4 way down tonight in cusack stand upper so hoping the sound will be decent enough despite reports to the contrary.

Got to see the final quarter of Friday's gig. Lots of lights, camera's and some ant action (high up in the Hogan stand). Crokers is something else, U2 are less so but for four mid-forties fellas they can still pack a punch. My lord is that Vertigo song lame, some nice visuals went some way to blocking out the dirge.

went on friday night, was in the canal end where the sound was so bad during snow patrol, that i almost upped and left... obviously better for U2 but not much so... ...great light show really added to the gig.... really good section towards the end of the main set of sunday bloody sunday, bullet the blue sky, running to stand still, pride and where the streets have no name... the he went and ruined it by f**king around with the melody of one just as everyone was at peak excitement and wanting to sing their lungs out... first encore was good, bringing back zoo tv... second encore was rubbish with 2 lesser tracks off the new album and a reprise of vertigo... overall very enjoyable though... they are definitely the biggest band in the world and definitely NOT the best band in the world to hijack the other U2 thread... tickets for the canal end should have been cheaper though... ...reckon they'll have one more album and tour in them (circa 2009?) and then people will lose patience with them if they continue to tour

well, apparantly Michael Eavis has 'snubbed' them for Glasto 'O7. Do you know what I never understood about U2? Why the hell don't they do an MTV Unplugged album? That would be a huge seller.

they should try making an acoustic album of new material. they are synonymous with stadium anthems so it would be worth it just for the sake of experimenting (something they seem to have left behind them recently). as an irish person living outside of ireland, it's amazing for me to realise how huge U2 are around the world, especially in the non-english-speaking world. I hear them on the radio everywhere - supermarkets, train stations, transistors in parks. I have to admit that it makes me feel a little proud. anyway, I hope to swing a ticket to see them in the stade de france the weekend after next...

Does anyone make MTV Unplugged albums anymore? The last really good one was by Nirvana and Dylan's one is quite good too. Looking forward to seeing them tonight now!!!!

The guide you get free at the gates of Glasto with times etc (unlike the €10 you are forced to pay at oxegen) basically said he is sick of trying to get U2 to play and that U2 obviously don't want to play at Glastonbury thus if they want to play they've to ring him.
