Hi Guys, I've been off sick so I did a bit of MP3 surfing through official sites and found some stuff that it would be positively criminal not to download : Firstly, Former Whipping Boy Ferghal McKee ( www.ferghalmckee.com ). Anyone who's never heard 'Heartworm' has missed out. Most message boards about music are peppered with references to the album so it's time to start re-living the hype. Go buy the album in your local record store and then come home and download the aboves new single from his official site. It's all New-Order meets MBV via Nada Surf, but better. You may have dinner afterwards but as soon as you've necked the last of your tasty HazelBrook and Jelly you must sit back down and quietly contemplate the following : Dave Couse is as close to a Genius as is possible. An anti-celebrity. Someone who needs success so much he's allergic to it. Did I say genius?. The Facts, everybody has heard of A House. An awful lot of people will lump them in with ' Something happens ' or ' Aslan ' or the like, simply because it's easy and is not gonna to get you in to a fight ( Except with me ). True, they have similarities but only geographical and career path ones. In terms of musical weight and talent, A House have no equals. Five or six major label deals ( Warners, EMI, Radioactive ), Five or six top 50 singles ( UK - And I know most of them were between 50 and 40 but that's just bad luck ). Awards, awards, awards. Christ, Blur, Radiohead, Supergrass and Oasis all supported them.. Anyway, before I lose control, back to the issue. Dave Couse is the Songwirter/Main Man from that group. A man of extraordinary wit and ability, he's back with his new moniker ' Dave Couse and the Impossible '. Let's make this man a success, log onto ( www.Davecouse.com ) and dowload ( from a huge choice ) ' Celebrity '. It's great anyway.. Now I'm exhausted and I'd loads more. Get onto godisanastronaut.com for the new single. It's more epic than the bastard child of Gone with the Wind and The Liverpool Newcastle game from some years back and is a perfect introduction to the most promising Irish band of the moment. Guys, I actually meant for this to be a guide to legit, official MP3 downloads and I'm sorry if it turned into an advertisement or whatever, but the simple fact is that the above music is there to be shared and I'm just trying to do that. Jesus, I haven't even mentioned ( www.Ponyclub.tv ) yet...

Saw God is an Astronaut on Friday night in TBMC and was woefully dissappointed. Having read several praising reviews, I expected to see something special. Instead, I was faced with a 40 minute(or was it even longer?) snoozefest. It was like they took one decent idea and made 10 songs out of it. It was very samey, lacking any kind of crescendos or changes in tempo to keep the listener interested. The dodgy sound with the keyboard hooks buried under the bass, didn't help matters either.

Was at that gig too, wasnt great. all a bit sterile and lifeless. Strong visuals alot stronger than the music.

I thought God is an Astronaut were deadly on Friday night a bit samey alright but thats the kind of music it is. Fergal Mckee sucked, he just played on his reputation, the songs were brutal and Ian Browne is a better singer!

Ouch, but not entirely inaccurate. Of the new songs I only really liked the last one (even if it sounded really like "We don't need nobody else"), but I thought "Twinkle" was great.

What a cop out, and utterly untrue at that. Listen to M83, Ulrich Schnauss, Ratatat, Cocteau Twins, etc...

Sorry Unicorn perhaps i was being a bit harsh just was'nt my cup of Bovril at all. Ishrink, how can me saying that they were deadly be untrue? i liked them and thats a fact, and they sound nothing like the Cocteau Twins or Ratatat, slightly like M83 and i'm afraid i don't know Ulrich.

but do they sound like etc blah vlah bl;ah. Rollers sparkers were the highlight for me. The vocals reminded me a bit of damo sazuki, and the songs(pieces) show what you can do with a basic band set up.

No way man, Rollers/Sparkers were pants! Honestly, the worst band I've ever seen. My friend and I refused to applaud. They were terrible. God is an Astronaut were alright but I agree that they relied on the visuals to give their music depth and there was no variety to it. I think it would be perfect music to drive to and I don't mean that as a false compliment. Some of my favourite nights are spent in a car driving up the mountains chilling out to music. McKee, yeah, maybe he wasn't great but he still has an attitude. Falling into the crowd and singing "crawling" whilst crawling. It's hardly art, but it's more rock 'n' roll that most acts in these parts get up to.

I was disputing what you thought of them. I took issue with : "a bit samey alright but thats the kind of music it is." which is complete horse-manure, I then pointed to somewhat similar music that isn't at all samey.

It's Newton's first law of bulletin boards. For every action there is an equal and opposite overreaction. But I'm just posting to say the website is actually www.fearghalmckee.com and the new single is worth downloading considering it's free.
