The only albums I have from that list are: Ryan Adams ‘Love Is Hell’ Patty Griffin ‘Impossible Dream’ My Morning Jacket ‘It Still Moves’ And they're all excellent. I have seen Keb Mo and Jesse Sykes live, though.

Bizarre, I don't own a single album on that list, though I have just ordered the Holly Golightly one. Air is good, I've heard the entire album but just haven't had the urge to run out and buy it. I've heard good things about melt banana but sadly missed them last time they played Cork :( If there is one thing that can be taken from this list, its that this is the year that UK garage/hiphop finally broke through in the US. The Streets, Dizzee Rascal (only released over there on matador recently) and Ty.

I would love Blonde Redhead to get it, but of course they won't. Their Equus ep with David Sylvian is brilliant.

I highly recommend the My Morning Jacket album. It's the only one of theirs I'm familiar with, so I can't really compare it to their other stuff, but I have heard their newer stuff is more mellow. It Still Moves is pretty rockin'. They have a real unique thing going on.

Actually, older MMJ is a lot more hushed-out. Pick up 'At Dawn.' It'll blow you away i promise. (Also the album before it, 'Tennessee Fire' has a song called 'old september blues' that just kills me... And Binokular- that Holly Golightly's fantastic. I've been digging through some of her Billy Childish/Thee Headcoats stuff but he/she/they work under so many names it makes my head spin...(Also- she's recorded with a band called the greenhornes...If you like the Black Keys, the greenhornes do a similar authentic throwback thing for garage rock...) And, with that in mind, my faves Devendra Banhart ‘Rejoicing In The Hands’ (Young god) Ghostface Killah ‘The Pretty Toney Album’ (Def Jam) Holly Golightly ‘Truly She Is None Other" (Damaged Goods) Magnetic Fields ‘I’ (Nonesuch) My Morning Jacket ‘It Still Moves’ (ATO) That said, my guesses for who'd actually win are different...I'd say Wilco, Dizzee, and MMJ are among the front-runners... ...And did anyone else notice the startling absense of the Walkmen's 'Bows and Arrows'????????

Yeah, all that Headcoatees/Headcoats stuff is great. Holly wasn't actually a member of thee Headcoats, though she has collaborated with them and Billy Childish who actually is a Headcoat. She was part of the Headcoatees who were a spin off all-girl band who were friends of the Headcoats. Confused yet? me too. I ordered the damaged goods sampler vol. 2 at the same time as Hollys album, and have mainly been listening to that. It feels l like theres onlys about 15 people signed to the Damaged Goods record label and they just play in each others bands! See that kind of band hopping doesn't just go on in the Irish music scene! Oh and they sent a nice little Damaged Goods pin badge free with my order, very punk!

There is some great stuff here but the Wrens album is a gajillian times better then anything else on the list, all of you should drop everything and go to road records to buy it now. In my weekly column on another site I looked at some of the the nominations. A few extracts: The Wrens - Meadowlands: Now we’re talking, an absolutely remarkable album that I just can’t stop listening to. If good albums grab, you in one of the places that I mentioned earlier then great albums grab one in two at least. This is a balls and soul album, I really can’t describe how great I think it is, but I’m going to try in an upcoming edition of Entertaining Friends. If this album doesn’t win it then people need to die. PJ Harvey - Uh Huh Her: By no means an easy album and no-where near as accessible (or good) as her previous release “Stories from the city, Stories from the sea” but ultimately an extremely rewarding listen. I had to play it about 8 times to get my head around it before I reviewed it and I still don’t think that I managed to get my head around it. I’ve only been able to face listening to it once since then. The Killers - Hot Fuss: A few potentially great singles do not a great album make and while “Mr. Brightside”, “Jenny was a friend of mine”, “Somebody told me” and “Glamorous Indie Rock n’ Roll” might be wonderful slices of post-Britpop genius the rest of the album isn’t really strong enough to warrant it winning the award. Rufus Wainwright – Want One: Some people call Rufus Wainwright a genius, I call him a pompous but somewhat talented blowhard with a fetish for over-orchestration. Poses had a couple of good songs on it though. I look at about 13 of the nominees, pick who I think should win and who got screwed over so if anyone wants to read it it's on http://www.411mania.com/music/columns/article.php?columns_id=2922
