Phantom First Friday is on in Andrews Lane on Friday (obviously).

It's free in before 10 and The Aftermath, Concerto for Constantine and someone else are playing, plus club afterwards.

Worth going for Concerto alone, brilliant band...though rumours are that they may not be together much longer.

i saw conderto supporting the enemy a few months ago. wasn't mad on them. brilliant drummer but that singer kind of wrecks my head. by any chance do you know any of them?

    What are the aftermath like?

I don't 'know' any of them but I've talked to them at gigs and stuff.

They were one of the standouts at Oxegen for me, really gave it socks. They sound less like a JJ72 tribute band now than they did when they first started out.

Not too familiar with teh aftermath other than Ken's interview on here and that they get played quite a bit on the radio.

i didn't want to start laying in to them in case you turned out to be in the band or something. they were putting a good effort in with that show I saw them play. they just weren't my cup of tea. and my girlfriend really hated them so i think i might have to give that a miss on friday, but thanks for letting me know all the same.

Don't not go because of me! Nah I'm not in the band. I find that writing about music is much easier than creating it!

Was thinking of going to this as I know The Aftermath lads well but I couldn't subject myself to the unspeakably awful, sub-Pumpkins crap that is Concerto for whatever. Go see The Aftermath but leave before Mark Greaney starts screaming like a cat dying a slow death.

A bit harsh don't you think? They're really not that bad. When was the last time you saw them live quint? They've come on a long way since they first started as concerto.

Saw them play at the IMRO 'Best Of Tour' gig in the village... Bloody rubbish, dont mind all the gleaming reviews of late. Also is it just me that hates these ridiculous 'kooky' photo shoots with Ironing boards and crap, as utilized by the likes of Grand Pocket Orchestra, The Chalets and Fight Like Apes?

Yeah, FLA look like a shower of twats in their photos. I'm sure they're lovely people and all and what i've heard of them sounds pretty good.

But then there's the other extreme of band photography in Ireland. 4 incredibly dull and anonymous looking blokes standing on a beach in the lashing rain looking all moody and stuff. Everytime Mick Heaney writes an article about a band for the Sunday times there's nearly always one of those type of photos. Maybe I'm being very shallow here but I always think, how is that photo meant to inspire me seek out your music. My eyes hurt from looking at you, what are you hoping to do my ears if this goes any further?

now, that I think about it. give me gimmicks and entertainment any day

i saw concerto in April. That's not that long ago. It's still fresh enough in my memory not to want to repeat the experience. Sub- smashing pumpkins is a pretty apt description. I didn't like SP all that much first time round either.

You're lucky you missed out on one of the worst gigs ever...

Grand Pocket Orchestra....what the f**k? I mean that whole 'look at me, I'm mad me' bollox got boring after 10 seconds. And that voice...he sounds like a cross between Ed Norton's mentally challenged character in The Score and Officer Zed from Police Academy....just awful.

Concerto....If I could have heard them I'd probably be harsher but they weren't great but the soundman was even worse.

The Aftermath....That first song they did, the one Phantom are always playing...that was ok...after that I couldn't hear a single lyric or tell one note from another the sound was so poor. Didn't seem like my cup of tea though.

I did almost break my arm on a wet floor in the loo though...so it wasn't a totally wasted evening...just one of the worst gigs ever...
