Ok, they are so 'uncool' they make The Frames look like Crystal Castles and it is probably taboo to mention their name in polite hipster company but while not being a bona fide fan, I've always had a lot of time for Coldplay.(A lot of derision the band has attracted is due to the fact they all to went to a top university and come from comfortable, middle-class, English Home Counties backgrounds. If they came from Salford, however....well,you know the rest) Imagine my surprise then ,when checking out new single 'Violet Hill', to find it to be the most shockingly dreary and underwhelming comeback single you could imagine. It sounds like a reject from Oasis's 'Be Here Now' sessions. Or an extremely bad Cast b-side. From 1996. Yes, it really is that bad. What is more baffling is that they 3 YEARS to come up with this. All that time in the studio and this is the best they can do? And Brian Eno at the producer's desk?

I haven't heard it, sometimes being out of touch has it's upside.

It's s**te. But then again, Coldplay haven't made a good tune since 'Clocks'. They are so formulaic - even moreso than Snow Patrol, and that's saying something - and Chris Martin is a cringingly poor lyricist.

Yeah, it's such a bad song I thought it was Just some free download, an inferior track off the album to build up some momentum to the album proper. But it seems to be the new single.

I think it's brilliant myself, full of emotive lyrics, heartstopping riffs and spine-tingling piano, it's as if they've summoned the spirits of hendrix, chopain and elliott smith all at once.....

....and p*ssed all over them to come up with that awful, awful, s**te.

Never liked anything they've done, but this is in the "so bad it's good" category for me.
