Looking at it from the other side of the coin, they were one of a neverending stream of generic Irish indie bands who just weren't good or interesting enough.

I wont miss them to be honest. I always thought they were more about image than music and I dont like that. But I never saw them live.

Saw them a half dozen times or so.. b52s schtick......songs werent there though.................

Hmm... I'm just listening to them for the 1st time now. The first tune on MYSpace has more than a distinctive whiff of "Rock Lobster" about it alright.

The Chalets were one of those bands I wanted to like in knee-jerk reaction sort of way because of the context of them being a band trying to be fun amidst all the over serious fairtrade coffee sponsored singer songwriter types.

At the end of the day, you have to ignore what else is going on and ask "is it any good?"

Sadly, not brilliant, top marks for effort though. Anyone who has followed the world of indie pop knows that bands come and go all the time, and sometimes people re-emerge in something new and genre definingly brilliant, or not. Either way it's all good, I don't know why people get so worked up about such things, music would go nowhere without people at least having a go. Few things illustrate that better than this blog:

i had a soft spot for the chalets... they had a few decent songs and they were fun...

although the style over substance accusation was best summed up by this reply on thumped: "i hear their graphic designer left them"

Unfortunately, singer songwriters can't split up from themselves.. Apart from Glen Hansard who, of course, was scientifically divided into two people, one of them being Avid Merrion.

Comedic genius, like a line straight out of 24 hour party people!
