Music DVDs becoming a disposable commidity? Sure looks like it, with The Observer next Sunday giving away a free DVD of Prince performing Sign O' the Times live. The Sunday after it'll be the turn of Talking Heads' "Stop Making Sense" DVD. More details on the give away here.

It's the norm now to give away CDs and DVDs with newspapers. You may think it's great to get a DVD with yr Sunday paper but these are the type of old music DVDs you'd find for 4 euro in the bargain bin in any music store so it's no big deal, no matter how it's promoted by the paper.

Hey Quint, Free CDs and DVDs with newspapers are indeed certainly the norm. But most of the time it's pure dross ("Classic Summer Driving tracks" or some semi obscure scandinavian art house movie). But there have been fine exceptions (I remember picking up free DVD of Firtz Lang's Metropolis that the Times a few years ago, as well as a tea coaster of Wim Wenders 'Wings of Desire', which the London Independent gave away).

However this is the first time I've seen quality feature length music videos being dished out. I'll tell you if I had ever seen these DVDs going for 4 euros (which I never did) I'd have snapped them up. I really doubt they are in any baragain bin at such a price! A quick check on completed sales of these DVDs on Ebay.co.uk shows 2nd hand copies of these 2 have in recent weeks been sold for an average price of GBP 5 (with about GBP 2 P&P on top of that), i.e. about 11 euros in total to get it to your door.

Nonetheless the appearance of these DVDs in bargain bins is now assured after the market gets flooded with them over the coming weekends.

Yip, I agree it's no big deal, but if you are in any way interested in the acts it is an excellent value proposition.
