I think he's a wonderful songwriter and no matter how out there the music sounds it's always rooted in strong songwriting.

If you want wierd try Beast Moans by Swan Lake, it's Krug's project with Dan Bejar (Destroyer) and Carey Mercer (Frog Eyes).

I concur with you Unicron. The Sunset Rubdown album is magnificent.

Thirsty as i am for more i take delight in reading about Beast Moans. I've never heard of them. What's the deal then? On a par with Wolf Parade/SR? Am familiar with Mr. Bejar's work (mighty fine it is) but not with Frog Eyes either.

I only got it on Sunday but I've really enjoyed it thus far. I'd put off getting it as I'm not crazy about Destroyer or Frog Eyes (which Krug was in for a time) but I was shocked by how much I enjoyed it. It's muc wierder sounding than anything that he's done before which I think is Mercer's influence as he does some mad things with his sound. There is one song on it which I think is as good as anything Krug has done before, it's called 'All Fires' and it's up on their myspace which I think is myspace.com/swanlaketheband

Thanks Unicron. It's got mixed reviews and i'm not sure about three distinctive voices on one album. I'll hold off i think.

Unicorn - I agree with everything you say about Swan lake. Sunset Rubdown, for me, was the best album of last year and I was really excited about Swan Lake. Beast Moans is a lot less accessible than SR but once you let it play for a while there are some great songs like All Fires and A Venue Called Rubella.

I was looking on the Wolf Parade website and all the band members have their own side projects such as the Handsome Furs (I can't remember the other names). It seems that they recorded some material for the 2nd Wolf Parade album in December and both Spencer and Matt are finishing up commitments with Swan Lake and the Handsome Furs at the moment.

I'd say that Wolf Parade is fairly accessible, but how popular d'you think he is? I wouldn't say he's any more popular than loads of indie acts. There's a niche market!
