Was listening to the Ian Dempsey breakfast show this morning and he played the new Rags single. It is top drawer which is really surprising because before this they were a band that I never rated.
Trying to find the single online but it is seriously good. anyone else heard it? |

Cool - thanks for that. The video is on there for it, half way down the page. Song is two minutes long. Absolutely class - in my opinion of course.
Might go see them in Whelan's. |

Cool video aswell......should get some airplay on Channel 6 pretty soon. Glad to see the band coming back with decent new tunes, after the previous split rumours. |

Awful, turgid, retrograde sub-Coral/Oasis rubbish. The lead singer has copied wholesale his slightly arrogant swagger and vocal style from Liam Gallagher. No-one does this anymore. Well maybe apart from that chap that fronts Kasabian.
The video is even worse: looks like a final year project from some spotty student on one of those 'Video and Media Production' courses. And a bad one at that. The only enjoyment to be gained from this video is to have a game of spot-the-cliche: the white boards with snippets of the lyrics a la the iconic Bob Dylan video for "Subterranean Homesick Blues" ; passing landscape/houses filmed from a vehicle of some sort (very easily done, always effective when you have run out of ideas, or had none in the first place);Rooftop setting for band performance; grainy Hi8 film-stock.
Boring. |

I know but such a spectacular lack of any kind of originality irks me deeply. It's a bit like...raising...a...red.... Rag...to...a....bull!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

i had the me and the moon ep...
...it was ok...
this song is ok, too...
it's the kind of song you're more than happy to listen to if it comes on a daytime radio show whilst your driving your car...
i won't be buying it and i won't be listening to it at home where i get to choose what i listen to |

If anything at least they are provoking debate. Heard the song again this morning and you're right - its a great song to hear on the radio.

To be honest I find most Irish bands quite dull, highly derivative and sorely lacking in imagination.
But there are a few I like: Director, NeoSupervital, Galway's The Ghostwood Project are the best thing I've seen in ages...Republic Of Loose but I think they should ease off sucking Vodafone's corporate cock, (keeps them off the dole, I suppose). Love Ten Speed Racer but now sadly defunct as are Tycho Brahe (I think), another great Irish band. I think in this country we are too quick to 'big-up' bands that are very mediocre. I'm just being truthful by saying about 80 percent of Irish acts are pretty hopeless.Like The Rags.
