Hi Folks, Heard a great Irish new band last week that stopped me in my tracks – ‘God is an Astronaut’ Anyone heard of them? It’s not ‘dancey’ enough to be called dance music, its not rockin enough to be called rock music and theres a big electronic element. If you are a fan of Sigur Ros these guys are definitely worth checking out. By all accounts they put on a very unusual audiovisual live show. You can check out their videos on their web sites - a little disturbing at times but very atmospheric… http://www.superadmusic.com/god/god.html

Fear not you have another chance to see them again - they are playing live in the Temple Bar music centre 4th March.

Also on the 25th of Feb in Cypress Avenue in Cork, with supported from Channel One. A great band, they were amazing at Mór last year, outdoor, dark, scary visuals, brilliant!

They've a God is an Astronaut 'audio visual display yoke' in the window of Tower Records on wicklow st. It seems cool, but i didnt look at it for too long. Is the album/live show all instrumental?

heard its cool, the show is mainly instrumental, vocals used as a layering effect in places but not dominant, really good..

Great live act. The show is basiclly made up of about 10 videos ( Moving and disturbing footage of War, Disasters, animal testing, old Buck Rogers cartoons ) on a big screen. The band stick to the shadows but are really tight and the music ALWAYS beatmatches the visuals ( Bombs exploding, drum er,.. Druming(?) ). Hear the sensational news that Feg McKhee from Whipping Boy is singing on their next single AND playing with them in March. If so, they're a complete must see.. Really..

Just got this album thanks to the good old listening post at tower. I whole-heartedly recommend it for anyone that likes any of these bands.....M83, Sigur Ros, Aphex Twin, Eplosions in the Sky, recent Mogwai stuff, Four Tet, Mum etc. Thats not a comparison..just a way of letting you know the kind of area they are in. I have to say I didn't realise they are Irish. Greta stuff.

If it wasn't for the fact that I'd heard God is an Astronaut (Really? I heard he was a multidimensional spirit being who exists outside the normal fabric of spacetime?) and their own brand of post-rock before, I think the description "It’s not ‘dancey’ enough to be called dance music, its not rockin enough to be called rock music" would nearly be enough to put me off them, makes them sound like a tepid watered down act in no mans land crossover hell, which they aren't. I'm currently listening to the new album from LCD sounsystem and its both "Rockin" and "Dancey" (sic) enough to be both. "Daft Punk is Playing at my house" is possibly the silliest song released so far this year and also my favourite!

'Daft Punk is PLayin at My gaf' if a cracker...but i'm not sold on the rest of it to be honest. Thought it would be a lot better and on the opening track being so good I was expecting to be blown away...all I'm wishing now is that's he'd just blow his nose...Jeezus the guy sounds so nasal sometimes it started making me feel ill. 'Movement' is good when it kicks in, so its just about saved by that. 'Never as tired..' is interesting cos it's kind of different but overall...it's just a bit.....myyweaahhh

'Never as tired......' severely ruins the buzz for me, CD2 is better

Granted I haven't heard the whole album, but from what I've heard I like alot. Their sound is very unique and I find it difficult to describe. Just because a band's sound crosses over a number of classes doesn't mean its water down, it makes that bit more intriguing and interesting. I especially like the idea of the audio-visual show, looking forward to the gig. Sigur Ros used to do something similar when they first started out, it worked a treat.
