    CLUAS is running a poll for its members, but to vote you need to be logged in! If you are not already a member you are invited to sign up for membership (it's free).

    Background to this poll:
    Next week CLUAS readers will be invited to vote for their favourite album of 2007 (from a shortlist of forty 2007 albums chosen by the CLUAS writers). The problem is the writers reached consensus on 38 albums to be included. Choosing the last two albums to make the list is less than obvious. What is clear is that there are 14 albums in the running for the last two slots and we thought the smart thing to do would be to get the CLUAS readers to vote on what 2 albums of these 14 should make the final shortlist. So, dear reader folk, check out the list above and pick what you think is the most deserving album on the list and vote for it. On Monday next week we will go live with the full end of year poll that you can vote in, including of course the 2 albums from the above list that secure the highest number of votes.
    Thanks
    Eoghan (on behalf of the CLUAS writers)

    I just can't believe I left Bat for Lashes out of my original list...after all my giving out about the Mercury Music Prize too...

    Ian Brown's was a stinker(pains me to say)! Timbaland, and the more arty left field artists, Regina Spektor, Devendra Banhart...poop??? What about Hybrasil's Monkey Pole? From start til end, a classic, and homegrown...jeez!!

    And as for Rufus bloody Wainwright, I cannot listen to him nazzling without a picture of KD Lang popping into my head... get out of my head LANG!!!!

    [Scene: crowded racecourse]

    ...14 runners going to post for this CLUAS Shortlist Backdoor Bumper Hurdle, 2 miles 4 furlongs the trip. Under starters' orders...

    [country-gent flicks up the tape]

    ... and they're off! Bat For Lashes in the sheepskin noseband making the early running, from Damon Albarn in the Queen's colours and Rufus Wainwright in the velvet blazer and angel wings. Ian Brown and Babyshambles trailing over the first couple of furlongs but still early days yet. Coming up to the first fence...

    I should have copped this already, but that Regina Spektor album in the list of albums above was released - of course - in 2006, and so is ineligble for this vote. I'd delete it from the list of albums above but the software driving this poll doesn't allow any voting choices to be deleted once a poll is kicked off. So... don't vote for the Regina Spektor ablum, it'll be a wasted vote. eoghan.

    ...at the first fence - and Regina Spektor's a faller! Regina Spektor, this two-year-old filly out of Soviet Kitsch and Kooky Piano Girl, is gone. Still Bat For Lashes from Rufus Wainwright, followed by Damon Albarn and Iron And Wine a length back. All clear over the second hurdle, and as they enter the back straight...

    Definitely Rufus and Iron and Wine for me... but that's because I voted for them in my Top 10 of the Year in the first place.... ;-)

    Explosions In The Sky

    Rufus: I know I am completely alone in this but I think he is massively overrated and his voice is awful.

    Damn. You are right. Looked it up just now and it was released in September 2006. So that's off the list, despite landing 5 votes so far. Is there anything else on that list that was released in 2006? Please let me know as I - as you can see - am pretty brutal at recognising what was released when.

    To recap - a vote for the following 2006 releases is a wasted vote:
    -> Regina Spektor
    -> Bat for Lashes

    Shockingly I've only listened to one of the above albums (All of a sudden I miss everyone), so mine was an easy if uninformed choice.

    Okay, Thanks to all who voted. I'm closing the poll now and the winners are:

    ---> Explosions In The Sky ''All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone''
    ---> Iron and Wine "The Shepherd''s Dog"

    These two albums will be added to the 38 other albums to finalise the CLUAS shortlist of the 40 best albums of 2007. More info on how to vote in the full whack poll will be added shortly.
