I really don't get the point to the whole garage revivalist music scene.. not only does it copy straight from the styles of music, dress & design, & not only does it add nothing new.. it doesn't even sound as good as the original music from the likes of the Sonics, 13th Floor Elevators. I don't get it.

Even if the new garage bands aren't as good, you gotta admit, garage is pretty fun to see live so it's good there are still new functioning bands playing this style. Anyway, if you ignore the revivalists, Garage never went away. People like Billy Childish/Holly Golightly and others on the "Damaged Goods" label have been keeping the flame burning over the years, even when the NME hated them, and they hated the NME.

I wouldn't mind so much if it was revivalism per se - there's a lot of 80's revivalist music around these days that I like - but for the most part, a lot of these bands are copyists in that they add nothing new at all... it's a straight copy of the music, dress sense & design styles & even the use of words like "cat" - I find it utterly baffling. I just don't see the point, in the same way that I don't see the point in tribute acts.. yeah, lots of people enjoy seeing them live, but not me.

As for acts that have kept the genre alive (like the ones you mentioned) - I'll have to check them out!

Not quite. The half-brained certainly read the NME though.
