read an interview with them in the ticket and got the album, really quite good, though i've only listened to bout half so far. But does anyone know any good klezmer bands, or balkan type music? Kind of hard to find anything, but anything i've heard so far has been quality. Any recommendations on any folk stuff would be good, american bluegrass, etc

For Balkan type gypsy punk, look no further than the excellent Gogol Bordello.

Nearer to home, there's the North Strand Klezmer Band. I've seen them a couple of times, and they're a riot. www.myspace.com/thenorthstrandklezmerband

No, wasn't there; I don't live in Ireland any more. Saw them a few months ago while home in a newish pub on Westmoreland Street (the westmoreland?) and before that in Frasers of all places; that awful kip at the top O'Connell Street. There's some excellent footage of them invading a McDonalds knocking around; probably on their myspace page. I reckon that it was shot after the Dun Laoighaire thing?

yeah that was the same day! they went busking, and that was the detour to burger king. The garda had to move them off the street because so many people were dancing they were holding up traffic. fun times. its on you tube but i cant remember the adress at the minute, its linked on their myspace page though. My favourite band to go see in dublin, definitely.

As for bluegrass, Steve Earle recorded a brilliant bluegrass album called The Mountain with the legendary Del McCoury band a few years back. Well worth listening to. Especially the wonderful closing track that he performs with Emmylou Harris called Pilgrim.
