| | Some of you may have only gotten over the World Cup disappointment and are still seeing that Zidane headbutt happening in slow motion, but the football world doesn't wait around. In fact, the Premiership is starting again next month and that means fantasy football is back. For anyone interested, it's free, a good laugh, makes Watford vs Reading games interesting (if you are unfortunate enough to pick one of their players) and easy to set up.
Just go over to www.premierleague.com. Then click on the 'Game On' option on the left hand side, then go for 'Play Now' under the Play Fantasy Premier League sub-head and register. When all is ready, enter the code below.
There is a Cluas league set up using this code: 9907-2687

Its gas I watched the world cup final thinking that Zidane looked the image of daniel day lewis as Butcher Bill in gangs of new york, and then he proved me right with that headbang, what a sorry state football is in.

when we were watching the match last night, i was telling my sister about the piece tom humphries wrote on saturday, about a 15 year old ZZ headbutting someone in a game when he was being watched by a scout. then - ba-boom - ZZ decides to show us he hasnt lost it. Crazy, crazy crazy.

| Seeing such a great player end his career in disgrace truely saddens me.... then I think about the €180 I made by backing Italy at the start, and suddenly I feel so much happier again. | | | |

| | Yeah that was another great piece by Humphries. I doubt the Arc de Triomphe displayed a holigram with 'Merci Zizou' last night. Although it was a fitting way for Fabio Cannavro to end his international career - 100 caps and lifting the World Cup after being the best player throughout the tournament.
Hopefully the Premiership is good this season though, to make up for the lack of quality in the World Cup.

| | Again, fair play to gar. united for the premiership, 'brilliant orange' for the fantasy league (though a lot of it depends on whether those italian judges spark off the mother of all transfer summers...)
tom humphries is OK but I prefer paddy agnew (italian correspondent for the irish times, writes beautifully) - and the greatest sports writer of all is con houlihan (greatest living kerryman too). anyone who loves football should also check out david winner's history of modern dutch football 'brilliant orange' (gar, you probably know it), a fabulous book.
no, no hologram of zizou this time around. there's a huge advertising poster of him (for an insurance company) on a building halfway up the champs elysses, and after the france-brazil game a million people on the champs paid homage to this poster - incredible scenes of mass hysteria and fanatical devotion. I'll never forget it (even though I was for italy...)

| | Aidan, I thought Sean Kelly was the greatest living kerryman? Houlihan is good, as is Agnew (who is doing very well out of this Italian scandal) but Humphries is just unbeatable entertainment. I've read that 'Brilliant Orange' book but it has to be said that there is a real lack of good football books.
Roll on the new season and the fantasy footy.......

"There's only One Red Army" by Eamonn Sweeney is IMO a great read. Its about Sligo Rovers but you don't have to a Rovers fan to enjoy it.

| | Reading 'Dynamo' by Andy Dougan at the moment.
Kinda like Schindler's Ark with Football. When the Nazis took Kiev, a local gave the Dynamo team (Europes best squad of PreWar players) jobs in his Bakery. They went on to play German army teams throughout the war.
Was reccomended to be by the guy working in H&F, when I bought Kuper's 'Ajax: The Dutch, The War'.

| | Okay, this is defintely the last time that I will refresh this thread. But the Prem season is about to kick off this weekend (C'mon The Gunners!!!!) and fantasy footy always makes it that bit more exciting. Whether you think Carrick can be the new Keane, Ballack will rack up all the bonus points or Marlon King will save Watford.....put your predictions to the test by choosing your fantasy team. You've got 100 million to splash out on 11 players and four subs.
Go to the website - http://fantasy.premierleague.com - register your details, select a kit, pick a team name and enter the Cluas league. The code is 9907-2687
