Yes. Just saying.

Seriously though, I do. There are very few instances where new bands attract my attention immediately as I tend to circumnavigate bandwagons and, only when all the hype has died down will I give them a proper listen. Sometimes though, I'm afraid to listen to older music in my collection because I worry I might not like it as much as I used to. When I'm going through both these phases at the same time, I tend to take a step away from listening to music for enjoyment and listen to it for distraction (driving, in work etc) purposes only.

Made you look

No.

I get fed up of specific genres sometimes, but that's generally my own fault for oversubscribing.

Never totally fed up no.

..but there are periods where my level interest in music wanes, where I don't listen to much. I'm back to listening to lots of music these days (the secret is watch less TV), but I haven't seen a live band in about a year, maybe more. I'll be breaking that dry spell soon as I've just got tickets to see The Breeders in April. Part of it was that I lived in sticks for a while so getting to gig required more effort, but even when I moved to Dubland (or more specifically, the bland wasteland that is Dublin suburbia), I've been so preoccupied with other stuff I haven't gone to gigs. Needed to just get the motivation to get my arse out the door and see some live music again and it doesn't get much better than the Breeders really.

This is going to sound a little OCD, but I've found one way to keep from musical boredom is to make up a windows media player (or whatever your music player of choice is) playlist of all the stuff that has not been listend to in a year, or six months or whatever and you constantly find stuff you'd sort of forgotten how much you liked, and some stuff that seems rubbish now, but it does keep it interesting.

I get disheartened. A lot of music, not just today, but through all of the history of recorded music, is bad. I do get fed up of scenes, hype, promotions and publications. But fed up of music? Never, no. I love it and I absolutely feel that making great music is the most brilliant thing a person can do.
