Is this a new site? The URL doesn't seem to be working maybe its actually going live at 3pm today, sounds interesting. Got this from Joe Chester: From 3pm today you can download "A Safe Place to Hide" at www.downloadmusic.ie This is a new site promoting independant Irish music and is well worth checking out. Each track costs 99c and every week they'll be publishing a chart of the highest downloads.

That's all well and good and it's nice to see a site catering for this kind of music., but 99c per track shows a lack of imagination. It's not one of the big boys, it isn't iTunes. These are largely unknown artists. Other than the fact that you don't have to sign up for a subscription, I can't see many compelling reasons why either artists of buyers would use this rather than Emusic? or other similar sites aimed at independant artists (i.e. not just Irish) or forget the whole download thing and use cdbaby.com?

Nice idea but pretty poor fare - couldn't they have waited until they had a bigger catalogue to chose from. Sales this week, if they sell a dozen mp3's I'll be surprised. One for the future perhaps. I agree with the others though, emusic does this much better (and cheaper).
