Just came across the following: MySpace gets some serious musical competition with the July 7 launch here of Bandwagon.ie. Billed as “a music social networking and download portal”, Bandwagon has already proved to be a big hit in the UK where it’s home to 4,300 unsigned acts and registers over 100,000 hits a month. Bandwagon is free to use, and anybody can create a page. Artists can upload content, and Bandwagon offers to give artists 60% of the revenue for all music downloaded through the site. A spokesperson said: "Launching Bandwagon in Ireland will be an exciting journey. We're hoping Bandwagon will give the next generation of artists the first opportunity to promote themselves and get noticed." The site is also introducing a new series of online services for bands and independent labels, which will include video blogging, V.O.I.P. chatrooms for live performances and an IPTV channel, Bandwagon TV. For its Irish operation, Bandwagon has formed a strategic partnership with the Dublin-based telecoms and broadband group, Imagine. _____________________________ My question is...how many of these bleddin' sites does a band have to do..?!!!! It's getting stoopid.

myspace is really well established, obviously, but I think because social networking sites are becoming so expansive, we're going to see a glut of more focussed ones.

They had a big hook for the UK site with the "Road to V" competition. Bands sign-up, upload profile and a tune, it supposedly gets entered into a contest where the winner get's a slot at the V Festival. Lots of bands signed up, doesn't seem to have much ongoing activity though, there's no non-band userbase. Can't see the .ie having much impact, without a hook like the above for bands, and something else to hook music fans. Also, they insist you gave them rights to sell whatever tune(s) you have on their site as phone ring tones when signing up(for the duration that you have them on the site).

Guys FYI Bandwagon music rights is non-exclusive, which means we dont hold the rights to anyones music and it can deleted at any point Basically we dont hold any rights, the right remains with the artist/indpendent label! Any more questions email: tara@bandwagon.co.uk Cheers Bandwagon
