    - Can we honestly hold our hands up and admit the reason(s) why the majority of vistors to this website are not getting overly excited about Irish acts? - Have the days gone where we used to thrive on discovering a new band in Doran's on a Friday night, made an effort to travel outside of Dublin for a gig (or travelled to Dublin, if you are in different counties/countries) or making sure to catch the Irish band who are supporting the big international act we have paid over the odds for? - Have we simply become disheartened by the venues, the acts and the Irish scene as a whole? - Are we not doing enough to support underground/local/national acts? - Or is it not our fault at all that the quality of acts is below average and media exposure is limited?

I for one think that the live music scene in dublin has never been as good! There are so many really fresh bands coming through doing their own thing and doin it great! I dunno wot all the moanin is about at all!

i think the scene is doing alright at the moment too, there are some good bands out there. biggest problem i think is the lack of a really good night, where you could just turn up and see good bands, instead of the pure hit n miss it can be at the moment

jeez, i thought things were grand. there seems to be loads of acts coming up and having a go. that gig a few weeks ago that the things put on was brilliant i know i dont get to as many gigs as i used to get to (domestic duties have a bigger clout than seeing new bands right now) but the ones i do go to are well attended and people seem to be supportive of whats happening if people arent getting excited, its probably down to the quality of the acts. this, though, is a historical thing. ireland/dublin is a small country/city and has limited potential when it comes to developing great acts. this has always been the way - might change in 10-15 years when the new communities start producing great bands but its a medium to long term thing a strange post from gar of all people - you are usually the most enthusiastic poster here!

I'm merely raising the questions with this thread. Personally, I think the Irish scene is improving alot. There are some really great and original acts around and finally there seems to be international recogniton from record companies. I know some bands flopped before but I believe bands like Humanzi, Director, The Marshals and The Immediate will do well on their newly adopted labels. Channel One also prove that not all Irish bands should be pigeon-holed in the same genre. The reason I posted this thread was because I've recently recieved a flood of Ep's, singles and albums from many Irish acts and I've been impressed with everyone of them. And I find it odd that not many other posters on this forum raise the issue of the quality of Irish acts currently on offer.

Agree with this. I've never been so annoyed at being apathetic as regards going to gigs.
