I met and talked to Eoghan (our beloved CLUAS webmaster) for the first time at an Elliot Smith. At that very gig, he talked to me about this idea he had of starting a magazine on the Net. As our friendship developed from that night, I encouraged him to realise his vision and I promised I would write for him (the first CLUAS article was my review of the movie Smoke). But we both developed a real affection for Elliot Smith's music. RIP Elliot.

Elliot Smith passing away? One heck of a dose of sad news. A remarkable song-writer. May he rest in peace. Wherever he finds himself. eoghan (And Dirtypropaganda. That do be a shocking insinuation. Me and mah dearest dahlin' steve sure do not be of that persuasion. But it was nontheless a great gig that night in the TBMC back in 1999 with Elliot Smith).

I've read that he committed suicide. I can't believe that, it's heartbreaking.

I saw him play In The Red Box a couple of years ago. He was definately my favourite singer songwriter of the last few years. It's seem's awfully tragic that like Jeff Buckley and Mic Christopher before him he'll have to die before his body of work seeps into the public conciousness and earn the recognition it deserves. If you haven't got any of his albums already I recommend Either Or or XO.

He was a fantastic songwriter and a talented musician. His songs seemed to have more depth that a lot of singer songwriter stuff that's about these days. Tragic. RIP
