Did anyone see the program on Edwyn Collins the other night... the guy is an inspiration - in 2005, he suffers a brain haemorrhage, loses the use of his right arm, can barely speak, loses the ability to read... and just a couple of years later, he's back in business, recording a video for the single off his last album & playing a packed out gig in the London Arts Theatre. Amazing stuff.

He's amazing - at the start of the program, they were showing him doing his therapy to get his body moving & doing speech therapy using scrabble letters to spell out words like 'Gibson' and 'Fender' (which he kept getting wrong). I was sitting there thinking "Christ, I'd rather be dead than have to live like that."

Then he got back rehearsing with his band & he sounded AWFUL... and they were talking about doing a gig - I really started thinking he'd never pull it off, but the programme finished with the live show & though physically, he's still a bit f**ked, he sounded great.. his speech therapist said that if she'd been told a year ago he'd be back onstage fronting a band, she'd have said "not a chance".

It's a story of absolute gut determination, a huge amount of hard work, a lot of stubborness and amazing support from a very loving wife & son... had me blubbin, so it did.
