The garage-tastic Primitive Festival in Rotterdam is once again being held this coming summer & we would love to play it. Now this is where the problem lies and were you come in: the one rule that the festival organisers have is that no band can play the festival twice ... but this year they are conducting an online poll were you can vote for a previous band to play at this years event. If you log onto PRIMITIVE and vote for us on the right hand side of the page we'd be very greatfull.

I really don't get the point to the whole garage revivalist music scene.. not only does it copy straight from the styles of music, dress & design, & not only does it add nothing new.. it doesn't even sound as good as the original music from the likes of the Sonics, 13th Floor Elevators. I don't get it.

... I reckon The Sonics came close, but failing that, if the best garage song /album has yet to be written, it won't be done by a band that fails to introduce any originality or ideas of their own into a genre that petered out around 40 years ago.

Just an opinion - if you can't take a criticism, the music industry really isn't the place for your fragile ego.

And I voted for you earlier btw.. I believe in supporting homegrown acts, even if the music doesn't grab me - I went onto that website and it just baffled me when I saw the amount of garage revivalist bands there are around these days... and so many of them starting with "The (one word)", dressed in 60s clobber & using designs based on 60s posters... like I said, I just don't get it, but maybe that's just me missing the point. Anyhow, best of luck getting the gig - yer in pole position at the moment.

I've said it before but The Reigning Sounds 'Too Much Guitar' is a first-class garage rock & roll album. Forty years after the fact aswell. The best song however is and always will be Don't Look Back by The Remains, doesn't matter how many revivals there are.

why not is what i say?

it's all down to luck and money whether bands make it, isn't it?... it has little to do with talent... so why not promote bands from your own home, hope that people catch on and make a 'scene' from your city and therefore see money being invested there which will also enable lesser known (and better) acts to get the chances they might not have had otherwise...

...that argument was thought through in the last 23 seconds so don't be surprised if there are holes in it...

...plus i don't follow the advice myself...

No - i totally agree with you... I do BELIEVE in the idea of supporting homegrown acts, but like yourself, I often don't actually do it.. living in Sligo - it's even more obvious with the lack of facilities for bands. There are zero rehearsal or recording studios - it's suprisingly difficult for bands to get gigs here.. the local promoters are all sound, but they're also very aware that unless the bands are reasonably well known (ie., getting radio plays) then very few people will show up to see them. There isn't even anywhere to rent a decent P.A. if bands want to play the local pub (unless they fork out stupid money for it). I tried setting up a rehearsal space last summer with government investment, but with the time & effort it would've taken on my part, it wasn't a runner.

You can get a flight with Aerlingus for uner €150 to Amsterdam & take a train direct from Schipol - it takes about an hour. Feckin great city too - totally overlooked... we played there last summer, loved it .
