Rods early solo albums were practically Faces albums re-badged to launch a new solo career, everything after that doesn't stand up to the Faces best (who were fairly patchy anyway, I thought). Maybe a few tracks.

Could be, I don't know this band.

Captain Beefheart - Ry Cooder
Ry Cooder released some good albums but never appraoched the downright inspired weirdness of Captain Beefheart, even compared to the relatively normal Safe As Milk. Besides, he was more of a hired hand than a band member. Is there any album he wasn't on back in them days?

Them - Van Morrison
I prefer Them to Van, but you're probably right.

The Beatles - Paul McCartney (and the rest)
None of the four inidividual members came up with anything as great as the groups combined work. There's a good few tracks that could have sat easily on Beatles albums (even on McCartneys recent Choas & Creation…) but never an albums worth.

Led Zepplin - Robert Plant

Amboy Dukes - Ted Nugent(sold 35 million albums in case u don't know him)
Nugent is rubbish, the Amboy Dukes rock. 35 million people can be wrong.

The Yardbirds - Eric Clapton
Eric Clapton was never better than when he was in a band with a leader. John Mayall's BB, Cream, Derek & the D's. When he was left to his own devices the quality control went downhill fast.

BUT you've got to remember that their average age is something like 23. Most bands probably wouldn't even release a debut LP until maybe 26-27... Their best years are yet to come.

And considering that IT&C is as amazing as it is (my favourite - not just Irish - album of last year), I've gotta side with Peejay.

I expect they'll all form new bands quick sharp, I doubt this is the last we'll hear of them. And you've got to love 'existential differences' as a reason for breaking up!

Great thorough response Peejay. But you've admitted it is possible for solo artists to exceed themselves after a split!. I don't see the lads going down the solo road anyway. As for "flipping burgers", no chance! The future is bright!!

I've no doubt we'll see all these lads again. I wouldnt be surprised if atleast 1 partnership remains after the split (Although I have nothing to base that on)

Unfortunately for now there doesn't seem to be any plans for a partership but I really hope that when the dust settles Conor and Dave get going together again. I live in hope!

Thats a pity alright. I was really interested to hear what their second album would sound like, the first album while maybe a bit disjointed showed real potential and live they offered something different. Who does our hope for the future rest with now
